Just getting back into this today. I had never finished the MSQ for Endwalker, so getting that done. Looking forward to see what Dawntrail was about.

If you need a tank or healer or something for raids/dungeons let me know. Love me some FFXIV and had been playing it hard prior to all the new July releases.

The 100x3 dispels was not bad at all, got both job shards in the process. Once you are at that point it lets you spend the math tomes for new arcanite. However, getting the glow requires doing fates in every Dawntrail zone, plus every trial every leveling dungeon every raid and alliance.. it is a bit excessive.

The new aqueduct housing item is nice looking, but apparently involves relic grind shit? Could probably make some money sell the materials

Patch today was finale of the Hildibrand quests for this xpac and also the Allied Society quest. Allied gives you a new emote and outfit, Hildi gives you a mount + minion + orchestron roll, plus it lets you buy the Doomtrain orchestron roll from the Golden Saucer.

Small spoiler for Hildi

Once Hildi was in the air during a lightning storm, I immediately thought of the end to Back to the Future 2 - glad that was the intent and they went all the way in that homage lol

My understanding is it is a game wide revamp
You have my attention now. The system thats in there now has always felt dated as fuck, no matter how much I liked the rest of the game. No where near as bad as say ESO's combat system, but it does leave a lot to be desired.

The combat is still going to be the same combat. The revamp is the new evolved mode, which basically condenses abilities down to a more palatable amount, makes them available faster while leveling(also good for downsynced content so you don't end up with fucking weird ass low lvl "rotations" with 2 buttons). It will change the way classes are played naturally, but it'll still be the same GCD with oGCD weaved combat, just with less button bloat. Some buttons become contextual to let them merge 2-3 actions together(for example does x if enemy is far, does y if enemy is in melee range like they've shown a few examples), the combos are merged to a rotating button like you can do with mods for the past 6years and such. Also no more 2mins buff windows lining up for big bursts, I think by just removing most party synergy(some classes probably will retain some as part of their identity but less static)

But if you don't like XIV's combat, then you still won't like the evolved stuff.

There are a bunch of other large system changes, some of which do sound very good as QoL, for example changing repetitive objectives to be more weekly based rather than daily based so you can play more some days and not play others without feeling bad about it, or letting you share gear ilvl progression between classes so you don't need a whole ass new set of gear if you want to try out Monk but you've been playing White Mage or whatever(without having to buy a set of crafted gear everytime).

Like overall there's a lot of change, but I think it'll still very much play and feel like XIV, it isn't like a massive core mechanics change and more a lot of QoL stuff for a game that is showing its age.

The demo they showed at the NA fanfest looked interesting - people literally got excited about bard. They also showed timing based bonuses, like a tank using a certain mitigation ability at the last moment confers a bonus vs just pressing it early

No more 2min windows is a massive change. How can you call it a QoL when it is making a very obvious HUGE change in design?

I'm just torn on it and can deal with the things I dislike. Was just hoping for more "freedom".. maybe? Idek what I would want to change necessarily because I dont want it to be action combat, or a button mashing contest like WoW either.

Before the expansion launches - would love it if you ping me if you dive in a week or two before it launches Cybsled Cybsled . If you play then, at least.
