Lul, is that really cannon to the movie?

ET/supernatural shit in my history shows is not usually something I would be interested in. Although, since I don't really remember the part, if it was woven through most of the runtime, it might make a rewatch interesting to see how it's acted, if he is supposed to be a secret angel...

I stopped watching Vikings, in part, due to supernatural bullshit in the first season (when I finally decided to give it a chance, many years after it aired), but that whole show was tainted by my hatred for what the C-suits turned the "History" channel into. In particular, fuck those Pickers faggots that should have been on HGTV or some other women's channel.
Supposedly the screenwriter directly confirms it during an interview in the extras on the director's cut. Also there is one scene in the director's cut that is so unambiguous about it that you really can't even call him a "secret" angel.

It's a 20 year old movie so I'm not gonna bother with more spoiler tags, I just did the initial one for suspense.

Could just be the hype didn't meet your expectations, which can make a show seem even worse. It can be difficult to go into anything late, when you hear so many good things about a show/movie that put in sky high expectations whether you are conscience of them or not.

There have been a handful of movies like that over the years for me, but the only one I can recall off-hand is Kingdom of Heaven, Directors cut. I never watched the movie before and jumped straight into the directors cut thinking that it would be great, not having been tainted by the original. It was a fine movie, but not one I want to watch more than once...

As for Firefly, I didn't watch it when it aired, but more like ~2010 - 13, when there was good word of mouth but not seemingly revered like it is now. I liked the show a lot, for what it is. Can't think too hard about the space aspect of it. I also watched Firefly before Babylon 5 and The Expanse, both of which take some of the shine off Firefly as a space show.
It also doesn't help that we're now two decades removed from the show, so a lot of what probably drew people to Firefly has since been copied (someone mentioned the "snarky" humor that Marvel since has copied into the ground).

Joss Whedon wrote and directed a bunch of that MCU early stuff, and was even was brought into the DC shit.

The snarky humor is his schtick, and you either love it or hate it. I think it works sometimes but most of the time I would rather it be absent. I also never watched the stupid Buffy the vampire Slayer show, but has had people tell me it's the greatest thing since sliced bread which I just don't understand why.

I don't really get the hype. I had never watched it and started last year. I've watched 9 episodes so far, and I believe only 11 originally aired. It's an interesting concept of a space western, but the plotlines aren't anything super interesting. The cast seems decently likeable. But I honestly have no clue what made people like it so much.

In fact, I'm not really surprised it got cancelled. Sci-fi isn't really a huge draw to begin with, and this just seemed like a weird mashup. And I don't know that anything in the next 5 episodes would somehow make it some otherworldly show that deserves such massive praise.

Dude you need to stop getting high at 9am and hanging out in the psycho religion thread.

Easily one of the hottest women to be put in front of the screen hands down.
I bought the Firefly dvd set used for cheap and I shit you not the scene in the first episode where she's giving herself a sponge bath had been watched so many times that it skipped on the PS2? that I was using as a dvd player back then. I still have the box around here somewhere and I bet if I got the disc out looked at it with like a jewelers loupe I could tell you precisely where on the dvd that scene was stored.

I agree. I mean it sort of played into the original star trek or battle star galactica or even a new hope with the scifi western angle. But back then it made sense. The studios were mainly focused on big money westerns so scifi stuff was on the back lot being filmed behind the westerns but obviously some of the set pieces overlap to where they actually go down to western style worlds half the time.

Firefly was just a derivative copy of something that was done out of convenience, not because it made the shows any better. The modern take on scifi westerns is misplaced and kinda dumb.
