That honestly looks like crap. The shading and lighting are just... off. Nice wool hat with ear/cheek flaps that apparently has flashlights in it? Or is translucent?

I wish they could have gotten Fortiche Production to do the animation. THAT would have gotten me a lot more on board with this.

nah I'm out. Can't do cartoons. Deleted the old files, no need to get myself hyped again for no reason.

This is why we can't have nice things!

Animated?

I'm told the TOS animated series wasn't bad.

The responsible thing to do here is to shit all over the idea as loudly as needed on his insta. Live action or let it rest.

There is exactly 1 series I'd watch animated, and that's only because they could not do it any other way and that is Malazan Book of The Fallen.
Wait for the AI version. That shit would be wild. Probably not too far off for it either.

I bought the Firefly dvd set used for cheap and I shit you not the scene in the first episode where she's giving herself a sponge bath had been watched so many times that it skipped on the PS2? that I was using as a dvd player back then. I still have the box around here somewhere and I bet if I got the disc out looked at it with like a jewelers loupe I could tell you precisely where on the dvd that scene was stored.

That's hilarious. Whenever I check out a movie from the library there's a 50/50 chance that it starts to have skip issues when it gets to a sex scene.

I picked up Firefly not long ago and paid 2x as much for the blu-ray, mainly because they tend to resist scratching a lot better than DVDs. Just don't want anything skipping or not working. There are times when I'm fine with DVDs (have an LG C-series OLED that makes literally everything look incredible on it, somehow). Like I have all of the Shatner-era Star Trek movies on DVD just because I like the DVD cases a lot more, with the original movie poster artwork on the front of each one. However, something like Firefly, I know there'll be certain episodes that got...over-watched.

-Animated
-No Whedon
-This guy (who is totally entitled to his beliefs...on his own time) probably injecting tons of partisan politics into it. How's he gonna work with Adam Baldwin then? Kill off Jayne in episode 1?

Show has a lot going against it. I could probably deal with two out of three of the above things but all 3 and enthusiasm is pretty much already at zero. If people on here say it's solid and it doesn't have a bunch of preaching in it, I'd be happy to give it a try.

Killing off Wash in the movie was a pretty dumb choice in retrospect, because it limited any future revival of the IP. If you want Wash included, it needs to be before the movie. Which limits the story quite a bit. Instead of being able to build on Serenity, Kaylee and Simon can't be together yet, Mal and Inara have to still be doing their "will they won't they" thing with no hope of a resolution, and so forth.

Then again, in Serenity the whole damn system got brought down, right? So I guess having it before then is good.

In an ideal world, this would dig up and utilize show concepts* that never got utilized (in the four seasons and change that the show was planned to have and never got).

Like what the hell was up with those Hands of Blue guys. Were they aliens? Androids? CIA super-soldiers?

* - If Serenity was a sum-up of what Season 5 would have been, then maybe this new show can be what Seasons 2/3/4 would have been. However, that probably requires input from Whedon and his team, and we won't get that because Muh Cancellation, so...I don't know.

I also never watched Buffy the vampire Slayer show it's the greatest thing since sliced bread

You call the show stupid despite having never watched it, cool. It doesn't get amazing until about halfway through Season 2 when everything it put together up to that point clicks together and starts paying dividends. It's a bit of a teen drama at times but it's better than it has any right to be. I liked Seasons 5 and 6 (of 7) the most, as by then the cast are all basically adults in the adult world.

While the back half of Season 2 is really good, and basically all of Season 3 continues to have a strong narrative throughline, I think Season 5 was my favorite. Almost every episode in Season 5 knocks it out of the park. One of the best seasons I've watched of anything. The only weak-ish points are S1 (hasn't really found its footing yet, the main character is kind of weak and timid and not a bad-ass slayer yet), S4 (mid-series lull because Whedon was distracted by launching the Angel spinoff), and S7 (they were running on fumes at the end, and Whedon was distracted by Firefly this time). But really, none of the Buffy series is actually bad outside of a few of the standalone monster of the week eps, and the middle 30% of S7 where the show was just flailing about waiting for the final arc to begin.

This project is solidly going the Hulu Buffy way, alienating everyone and their grandmother over some random dudes political views about stuff no producer cares about.

While we're at it, an awesome damn show was Supernatural - for the first five seasons. Then they ran it into the ground.

I wouldn't say that. It had its story arc, finished it. But had a big enough following to continue into new chapters. Some of them were okay, some weren't. The monster of the week episodes were good. Some of the new chapters and characters were good. I could have done without their sloot mom and her fuck buddies. But the mark of khaine and purgatory arcs were fun. Bobby and Crowley were always great.

Yeah, I don't know...I mean, it wasn't terrible. But the tone of the show felt very different after season 5. Obviously, this was due to the show-runner leaving. But, for me, it was never quite the same.
