Yeah and especially since it seems like the main show is already struggling to get new seasons.

The fifth season of Apple TV+'s biggest sci-fi series, ‘For All Mankind’ began filming last Monday in Los Angeles, California. The news was officially confirmed by the show's creator, Ronald D. Moore at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.

The filming is expected to take around six months for the 10-episode fifth season. As per the current schedule, production will wrap by the end of January 2025. So, the fifth season is likely to be released sometime in Fall 2025.

Apart from the filming confirmation, the show has also revealed the new characters for the fifth season. Costa Ronin joins Season 5 as Lenya, a Soviet politician and former cosmonaut, while Mireille Enos joins as Celia Boyd, a member of the Peacekeeper Security Force on Mars. The two new faces will join the returning cast of Joel Kinnaman as Edward "Ed" Baldwin, Cynthy Wu as Kelly Baldwin, Wrenn Schmidt as Margo Madison, Krys Marshall as Danielle Poole, Coral Peña as Aleida Rosales, Toby Kebbell as Miles Dale, Tyner Rushing as Samantha Massey, Daniel Stern as Eli Hobson, Svetlana Efremova as Irina Morozova, and Edi Gathegi as Dev Ayesa.

Although the SDCC panel of the show kept mum on the plot of Season 5, the creator did reveal a few interesting things about the new spin-off series. Ronald D. Moore revealed that the new series, Star City will release after Season 5 while also confirming that it is yet to be written and he has already kept multiple seasons in his mind for the spinoff. On the topic of ‘For All Mankind’ Season 5, Moore confirmed that filming has begun, but they are continuously editing the scripts to keep everyone on the sets guessing. Moore has previously teased a seven-season plan for ‘For All Mankind.’

Was season 4 any good? We watched the first one episode and never picked it back up. Season 3 was already trending pretty badly. We just couldn't get back into it for 4.

Seems odd to be excited for season 5 if 4 was more of the same.

In my opinion, season 4 was worse than season 3, which was already a big step down from 1 and 2. It really focused on a lot of minutiae and characters that weren't really that compelling and the space stuff just wasn't as interesting.

I love alt history stuff, so even if it can get a lil campy or people think striking on Mars is dumb, I like that the tech seems close enough to seem within arms reach with a concerted effort to get there. Like is it the best written / acted / not woke shit ever? Not even remotely, but it always looks good, can be engaging and scratches an itch as it moves to near future Sci-Fi.

S4 annoyed me because the premise was unbearably stupid ( Helios recruiting unqualified desperate chumps and paying them minimum wage to work on mars ).

It was still watchable though if you don't think about it too hard.

I'm like halfway through season 2, is this worth continuing?
If you don't like it, it's not going to get any better. From what I recall, season 1 was the best season.

Season 3 wasn't terrible, but I also lost interest to continue watching, after it was over. That said, I don't regret watching any of the seasons as the "what if" history was interesting enough, for a while.

Couldn't finish the first season. Too fucking preachy and forgiving of the Soviets. Ended up fast forwarding to the moon parts and then gave up.

I like much of Apple TV's other scifi though.

Final shot of the season: “hey, this guy invented a crazy efficient fusion drive! Let’s make a space navy and call it the MCRN”

This would be a much better show if they had said goodbye to a couple lingering original cast members a season or two ago.

I mean at this point they're in their 80s/90s. I wouldn't be shocked if this is the final season for some of these characters, although I also wouldn't be shocked if they keep at least 1 in reserve for a possible season 6 assuming they get renewed for another season. Even the trailer kind of has a "passing the torch" kind of theme going on with it.

While it isn't directly in that news story except them sending probes to outer planet moons to find life, I bet by the season finale they'll find evidence of methane based life on Titan and Titan will become the next settlement target. Then they get to have a whole plotline of whether it is ethical/safe to make a settlement on a moon that has the 1st confirmed extraterrestial life, especially if the human settlement/infrastructure puts that life at risk
