At this point I don't even know where del Toro gets this mythical director status from. Feels like it's just nerds who liked Hell Boy, or because Pan's Labyrinth was good looking. But I look at his works and not only am I unimpressed, I'm confused.
Pretty much. I like the first movie I ever saw that he did was the devil's backbone, it was a pretty good ghost story, Pan's labyrinth wasn't bad because it was just so unique, but once Hollywood caught on to him and he started making the Hellboy movies and what have you, it's all been pretty shitty.
I remember going and seeing blood mountain in the theater and that movie was retarded. Looked good but it was just dumb. Very similar to this movie from a Gothic perspective.
I think it became a darling of Hollywood because he was foreign filmmaker that was on The cutting edge to try to sell more asses in seats. Meanwhile you had dudes out of Korea making stuff like old boy really pushing the envelope.
Look I'm no Cinema expert alike our dude from the Switzerland that somehow attends all the various film festivals and what have you, but I know what I like in a movie and a good story, and I honestly think del Taco is way overrated. Guess he has an artistic vision and can accomplish that on celluloid or I guess digital, but like I said in our previous post who cares that the movie is just stupid.
It sucks because I was really looking forward to this movie because I love the book, when I had faith that maybe he was going to do it justice, but instead he turned it into modern day BS.
Par for the course I guess.
