If Freddie actually said that, then the record label they're under doesn't much care for it because they're EXTREMELY fucking anal about who covers Queen songs. Especially Bohemian Rhapsody.View attachment 589269
First off, Yes he really did say that
And secondly Queen owns the rights to Queen songs (May, Taylor, Deacon and the estate of Freddie Mercury)

I remember an interview (I'll have to see if I can find it) with Maynard (Puscifer) about his cover of Bohemian Rhapsody and he basically said the label gave him permission to cover it on their Donkey Punch EP because of his reputation and under the labels guidelines and briefly dove into the rules he had to follow to cover the song.

Edit* No, they signed with Hollywood studios and Disney acquired the majority of their Distribution rights music as of 1990.

The rights to Queen's songs are jointly owned by Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Taylor, and the estate of Freddie Mercury through Queen Productions Ltd.

  • Brian May: Guitarist and co-founder of Queen
  • John Deacon: Bassist and co-founder of Queen
  • Roger Taylor: Drummer and co-founder of Queen
  • Freddie Mercury Estate: Represents the rights inherited from the band's lead vocalist and primary songwriter, who passed away in 1991
Additionally, Disney Music Group holds the North American rights to Queen's music, while the global rights are retained by Queen Productions Ltd.
