Having a particular degree (bachelor) doesn't make you an expert. Are you for real? I know such and such because I read a book. That's some flawed logic.

I don't get it. No one said expert. The post implied that Bill Nye isn't a scientist and AOC isn't an economist. They are both trained and practice in those fields. To claim that they are not those things is idiotic at best.

I'm not going to take advice from someone with a minimal degree in a field. A Bachelor's degree is rudimentary knowledge in whatever subject. Advanced degrees require much more study and provide a much deeper understanding of the topic. You are not going to convince me that AOC is a great mind in the area of economics. Nor is Bill a scientific genius. His show was highly scripted, and guided by consultants. He didn't practice in science with a B.S.

He has a bachelors in mechanical engineering. Engineers and doctors, of all the more science-y careers, seem to be the most susceptible or willing to buy into junk science. A lot of medical doctors go into research and a lot of engineers pursue PhD. Not to mention your jobs have to be data based, but for whatever reason they seem the most likely to buy into bullshit.

One engineer here at work does amazing data analysis, very intuitive for the process he supports. And yet, he argues with me that the earth is only 6000 years old and the evidence is being suppressed. Wat.

For engineering a BS is fine. Science is a process. Most learning is on the job same as for a PhD researcher. Source: 5 years in academic research, 10 years in industrial R&D, and 5 years in industrial production. Multiple advanced degrees. I’ve seen phd scientist argue that evolution is a “theory” without realizing how fucking stupid they sound.

This little fucker came up to me while eating breakfast in South America a few years back.
