psh, noob, you're supposed to pull the face off of the factory unit you replaced, glue the buttons back on, then cut that one kenny g cd that somehow ended up in your car in half and glue it to the back so you can slide it in your cd player to hold it in place!

I had one of these in the 90's that folded up to a black face with no buttons so it looked like you removed it.

When it was off it was plain black. I guess they could steal my boost controller below it but that car never got broken into.

The problem with the fold up or detachable face was that it still made it obvious that you had an aftermarket head unit, which was worth something, even without the face. And even if it was a pullout, that would still be strong signal that there were other things worth stealing in the car. Better than nothing of course, but looking completely stock was ideal.

edit: oops, forgot what thread I was bitching in:

1999 Toyota MR2 Red Manual, 5 speed Right Hand Drive in Wotton-under-Edge, United Kingdom - For Sale | Car & Classic

Kinda, but car thieves are retarded. My wife's MR2 was broken into and they stole the head unit (this was like, 2001) but didn't touch the subwoofers or amps... gratz on the $400 head unit but they missed the $3k in equipment. I'd say you never know what those retards are thinking and dark windows are the best defense so they just don't spy anything worth breaking your windows over.
