Initially I thought why were you so sure it would fall into the ocean? To my eye at first it didn't appear there hadn't been any erosion; it was a difference in angle and the picture composition that led to the differences. The more I read, however, there have been a number of large earthquakes (1989 San Francisco for one) and was some mention of some coastal erosion, although I can't find anything specific for measurements in the relatively short time I have been looking re: the Cliff House. It was a super interesting question to explore, with the Sutro Baths (once the world's largest indoor swimming pools area) right next door that also burned down, etc, so thanks for that.The San Francisco "cliff house" which burned down in 1907. It would have fallen into the ocean by now anyway.
