Seems unreal since in WoW a solid minority of character avatars were female and we knew damn well none of them were chicks.
Were you horde or alliance? Alliance had lots of people playing females on our server from the get go. Actually had real women in our guild since we required ventrilo or team speak for raiding, but there were plenty of dudes that played female characters we'd bust their balls for it.

WOW seemed to be the one MMO where women actually played by a surprising amount.

Has Gundam being turned into woke slop by 2025?
Radio Yerevan replies: That depends--If you think having a female lead in a classically male-led franchise, that is also a lesbian on top of that ... then technically no, because Witch from Mercury is from 2022.

So the answer only depends on the fact if you think it is lame, because it is already gay.

Man i played a female in ffxi which kind of predated the popularity of voice chat and they absolutely did. I never said I was a girl, people who knew me definitely knew I was a dude and my character was hilariously named after a pornstar. However the Japanese players were super creepy about it.

I very specifically remember a high level dude helping me with some quest item shit for a few hours and when we shot the shit somehow he found out I was a dude and went wtf and instaleft the party.

Honestly it was the only way to get a group with Japanese players half the time when it first came to the US. FFXI was the first time I ever played a female avatar in a MMO because the mithra (cat people) were gender locked and they had the best agility stats of all the races and the class I wanted to play needed agility.

Otherwise the JP players were like "Americans? fuck these noobs, they don't even know how to combo skills"

Nah I don't think that makes it woke.

Woke is performative virtue signaling.

The phenomenon began to fade as the years, and voice chat, progressed, but yeah… it was definitely a thing. Part of internet gaming cultural naïveté.
Man, even on actual wamens playing female characters, when guys hear the average graceless screeching voice, they're more likely to have their illusions shattered.
