Have they announced any pricing at all on any of the hardware?
Considering how volatile component pricing (especially RAM) is right now, I doubt they'll list any prices until pre-orders (if any) just before launch.

Most estimates are in the $800-$900 range, but made with no actual knowledge of Valve's bulk rates with AMD, nor continued component price increases.

Unless the cost of that controller is retarded I'm gonna get one. Maybe the VR head set too (also depending on cost). I like PC's too much to do the handheld or that cube but I am really glad to see it.

Since I use my PC for nothing more than playing games these days shifting over to the Steam Cube is pretty appealing. This would explain why they never let us load SteamOS to our own machines.

I was hoping for better specs from that vr headset, no color pass through really sucks. It definitely seems to be an entry level headset specs wise. I was also hoping for a new VR Half Life game to go with it, kinda bummed about that one.

Ill stick with my crystal pimax light.

Conspiracy theory: What if component pricing went through the roof because Valve bought up a lot from the vendors? The crypto guys don't need that much disk and memory, and the AI bros mostly use very special HBM memory and GPUs.

It's a genius move from Valve though, because now developers get some pressure not only to test and develop their games for mobile platforms like the Steamdeck, but now also have a mid to low end target aim for. And the stickers like "Works on Steamdeck/Steam Machine" on the store pages basically will drive demand.

Basically Valve is saving the AAA games industry from itself, which tried to outcompete each other on stupid graphical fluff with insane hardware requirements.

They'd probably be able to easily sell these at a big loss though. Having access to a steam library of thousands of games on launch means valve would make a killing on games.

Some news coming from Ubisoft

The motives for why the company has made this move are currently unclear. Well-known analyst for Nico Partners and online personality, Daniel Ahmad, notes that "this could imply an acquisition of sorts", or "could [...] imply some accounting / financial issue."
If you're wondering if Ubisoft is doing this because of broader market conditions, it's worth noting that whilst markets are in a downward trend today, it's only by about 1% in tech/financials markets (at time of writing, 6pm on 13th October). The most simple answer? Today’s earnings report is going to be spicy, and is liable to cause a big swing in the price of Ubisoft shares.

I would consider this but with rumored PS5 equivalent power? A console dating back to 2020? No thanks. But it depends on price, for sure. But not sure they can even compete with normal PC when Wallfarts has this..

Youre not winning any best PC contests with these things, but still, im betting my left nut that these things are WAY better than the PS5 equivalent.

While I like having control over my own hardware, I would certainly look into switching to SteamOS if they release it for general use (hopefully before windows 10 stops getting security updates). Otherwise I will probably stay on Win10 for another decade. I play too many old games or indies to switch to Linux I think.
