I've played a handful of the video games, but never read the lore, books, or the tabletop games.

I've played:
- Space Marine 1 + 2
- Necromunda Hired Gun
- Boltgun
- Deathwing
- Space Hulk
- Dawn of War 3
- Dark Tide
- Shootahs, Guns, and Teef

I think the only one I 100%'d was Necromunda Hired Gun, but I played a good chunk of the rest.

It seemed apparent to me that in its creation, 40K was an amalgamation of Dune, Aliens, and the Holy Roman Catholic Church (Knights of Templar, the Crusades, etc). It is the complete opposite of what the degenerates have coopted it to be.

Not sure if yall have seen this short story, but it's pretty neat:

Books are better than all the games. Read the Gaunt’s Ghost series. Read the Eisenhorn series. Then, read Ravenor.

…and then there is me with 3 complete runs in Rogue Trader and skipping 90% of the dialogue. The 10% I read is different each time, though. The rest the time I am just, “Nah, space treasure hunters go shooty shoot shoot.”

Genuine question: in any point in 40K history, did they ever bring up romance or sexuality? As far as I remember it’s just always been grim dark and about killing. Not about what the characters are sexually attracted to.

just seems really odd.

that and of course retconning the Custodes as always being female (or whatever class it was).

it’s a real “Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia” situation.
there's about as much romance in 40k novels as with any other pulp action stories.

off the top of my head Comisaar ibram Gaunt boned an heiress to a hive city and then stole her dad's powersword (and used it for like 12 novels).

Comissar Cain fucked multiple women and had plenty of sexual tension with the inquisitor (the narrator of the cain novels). I seem to recall him boning a machine priest who was a short redhead with rollerwheels for feet and a tail. he commented on how she used that tail.

one of the literal first 40k novels "draco" which was about an inquistor persuing illumination, inclued a callidus assasin and in tandem with the main character jaq draco was basically a bizaar story where the author laid out all his strange sexual frustrations and complicated thought in novel form. there was aals an imperial fist space marine who lamented the death of his best friend biff whose name he inscribed on his own fingerbone because his brotherly bond was so strong. he thought bout it constantly, aalmos like hte author has strange sexual hangups. (wasn't biff the name of the son's friend in death of a salesman who he had a "too close relationship with?" But since space marine weiners don't work, he basically just emotionally lamented his loss over the course of a whole novel before saying "fuck this" and shooting everyone else in the story.

uhh trooper caffran and tona crid in the ghost series had some romance, then had a child, then the child joined the guard.

Ragnar Blackmane in some space wolf novel was protecting a navigator young woman who he developed....like emotions for, but again, nonfunctional weiner so it didn't become sex.

i think there was a chick in storm of iron who was taken prisoner to be a sex slave, but she killed a sleeping space marine (who wwa maybe injured) with some kind of demon pact power, then put on his demon armour and was an amalagmation of armour, daemon and woman.

man i own a jillion of the older 40k novels, stopped about 9 novels into the horus heresy era i guess. i really need to finish the ghost sieries.

the eisenhorn series is partially about how eisenhorn is sexually and emotionally attracted to bequin who is a psychic blank so he cna't touch her without pain, and so he has this janky unresolvable romance. the eisenhorn and ravenor series is full of sexy sex appeal cheesecake female characters who fight half naked, or in tight clothes, or look all sexy doing spikey heel kicks. basically like tarentino heroins.

anyway yes there is plenty of sexual attraction, romance, strait up sex, and relationships in some of the stories. but they're b asically all pulp action stories so they bear very little focus of the stories, and rarely metion more than passing . more often than not it's something of a gag when a character wakes up in their underpants with some chick and has to get ready for battle quickly.

thank you for coming to my ted talk

Despite that they are musclebound gigachads there is nothing romantic about Space Marines. Or any of the 40k stuff. Other than what is pointed out above.
The thing is gays(or a lot of them) love big dudes made entirely out of muscle.
