It’s pure business strategy.

Any time a micro transaction is introduced in a game, the game will inherently be designed in a way to incentivize the micro transaction conversion. Single player by saving you time “grinding” or multiplayer by giving you an advantage over other players.

Thank goodness for gaming companiespar that avoid that nightmare.
That's essentially my grievance with the live service model in general, because there are some games that I've heard from others like here that maintain a fair balance.

Additionally, though, we have to keep in mind how there are basically two generations now who grew up believing that this is actually the norm, and most games can't function without funding a neverending digital dress up game.

We're left with the problem where choosing not to partake yourself is worthless next to the whales and the brain-rotted who are supporting the worst practices in the industry, thereby incentivizing as many other companies to do the same.

Haha, how did I miss that when I'm the one who compared the new Direwolves to Jurassic Park as a whole.

But do we think Keighly is that smart or willing to even vaguely bite the hand that feeds him (AAA gaming)?
No way, and I genuinely believe he had the most sincere intents without grasping the irony of Hammond's fate in the end.

Hammond lived in the movie. The lawyer he’s talking to died. My guess is he didn’t think of any irony and he’s just saying all the haters will be apologizing.

Late on the dragon talk... but

EQ really got all the "types" correct, at least to SoV.

I rarely have seen drakes as 4 legs no wings... drakes almost always are "small" dragons - so 4 legs/claws/arms and 2 wings. And yeah GoT dragons were Wyvrems

Dragons!!!!!

True, it's technically more the fate of the entire park and everyone who died.
I read Jurassic Park for the first time this last fall.

Ho-lee-shit is it good. I read a few other Crichton novels afterwards, but none were nearly as good as JP. If you haven't read it, please do. It shares the same 2nd Act as the movie, but the first and third act are completely different tones. The book is straight up R-rated horror/thriller while the movie is family action/adventure. I was very surprised how much I loved the book, and tbh, hated Dr Hammond and the younger sister in the book.

They basically switched Hammond and Gennaro's characters in the movie. Hammond is a greedy fuckbag who barely even cares about the fact that his grandkids are in danger and Gennaro is the moral one. Muldoon and Gennaro both survive while Hammond and Malcolm die, then Crichton was forced to retcon Malcolm's death for the second book.

spoilers, bro! Don't ruin it for those who haven't read it, yet!

In my head canon, Malcolm is dead and JP2 never happened. I tried reading JP2 but only got about 1/3 through it before losing interest. It was Crichton's only sequel and retconning Malcolm's death was something I couldn't really get past. Albeit, I enjoy The Lost World movie.

That's a weird thing to be unable to get past seeing as how his death was a mostly irrelevant sentence fragment in what was effectively an epilogue.

Wasn't he trying to flee in the end and the littlest dinos are his ass. He got mauled by a pack of compies or the little dinosaurs with the paralyzing saliva didn't he? I just remember reading the book the Christmas before the movie came out as a gift that year.

I'll have to put it on the list. I do remember hearing about it being more horror/thriller, as well as what Gavinmad Gavinmad said where Hammond was a horrible person in the book instead of the warm old man passed off in the movie.

*Oh yeah, I already knew about Malcolm being retconned back because of Jeff Goldblum's popularity in JP1.

It wasn't irrelevant. He and Hammond had a tied narrative arc. His death was the story. The actual death line was a fleeting disappointment, but the plot point is important. Hammond had warned Hammond before the construction of the park about how dangerous it was, he warned it while he was there, everything he said would come to fruition did (in concept, bc he didnt give details). Then he even had a heart to heart discussion with Hammond where he told Hammond they were both not getting off the island and were going to die there, implying soon, and they did. Having Malcolm survive breaks a major arc in the story, and its very obviously how the original book ending is supposed to be. He can later retcon it if he wants (and was paid to do so), but its very clear that in the original JP, Malcolm died.

He's still charming in the book, but he's very much the antagonist/villain.

William Roberts has a great audiobook reading of it:

I usually hate audiobooks, but I liked this one. I did a combination of reading the e-book and then listening to the audiobook when I was cleaning, working out, etc.

That was Dr Hammond, not Malcolm. Malcolm's death is off-screen.

Awesome, I'll have to check that out. I loved Jurassic Park as a little kid, although looking back I have no idea how I got through that other than loving dinosaurs.
