Disagree. If Sony found the price to renew the license to be to expensive, so be it. Expecting or demanding that Sony pay whatever the cost might be to renew is dumb, unless you also think Sony would have the right to demand another payment from their users to play those movies again? It is Sony's fault though. Sure people shouldn't have trusted in this shit but well 99% of my PC games are on Steam, if tomorrow Gaben dies in an orgy accident and John Equity takes over Valve and just say half my games are now not mine anymore, I'm kinda fucked. Still wouldn't be my fault for "owning" my games on Steam, it'd be Equity McScrooge's fault for being a greedy fuck. In this case, Sony presumably didn't want to pay for the higher contract amount to renew licenses on these movies, so instead they decided to tell their users to go fuck themselves, because why would Sony lose money when they can just not by fucking over customers. Still entirely their fault though, if they had wanted they could have spent money for this not to happen.
I'd expect Sony to not sell something they cannot guarantee to have available later on and if they do I'd expect them to negotiate in a way that makes it so they only have to remove it from the shop without removing access to paying customers, but here we are and after that yes I do expect them to pay more for the license that they themselves decided to sell in the first place, or otherwise to reimburse people, if we lived in a world where corporations didn't dictate the laws. But as I pointed out for Steam, I basically don't have a choice(well other than another store that is even more likely to do that shit earlier) and so for now I'm just banking on Gaben finding a magical underwater city with his cool yacht and getting gifted a mermaid's liver so he lives eternally. But realistically I accept that in the future I'll lose all my games because some suits want to make more money. Doesn't make me happy about it or cool with the fact it happens to other stuff.Disagree. If Sony found the price to renew the license to be to expensive, so be it. Yep. I struggle with this mindset. I keep hearing here to vote with your dollar but all I ever hear is piracy. All for downloading a version of something you already own. I despise this buying shit 2 and 3 times.I felt like this for a few years in my early-mid twenties, I think. Proud to pirate media.
At this point I’m glad I don’t still feel that way. If it’s worth watching, why not pay for it? If it’s not worth paying for, why waste time watching it? I really don’t think it’s something to be proud of, especially if we’re people who see the obvious decline in quality of media. Shouldn’t we want to legitimately support the media we deem worthwhile?
Especially when nowadays “paying for it” is often as simple as a small monthly sub to one of several streaming services, getting you access to a zillion media titles.
I am completely on board with what you're saying and do support the stuff I like with actual dollars. I do own "some" movies. Most of which are old as fuck, and some I've bought twice to update them to a media format easier to use. VHS > Blue ray for example. I am not buying any movie that is digital, and as Pyros is pointing out - if I had a choice, I wouldnt buy my games on Steam, GOG, Epic, etc. either. Because, as we're discussing - and maybe you're missing peoples point - you dont own that fucking shit. Never mind the ownership rights of games. Denuvo fucking over people and games needing to be online always when its a fucking single player game are genuine reasons to pirate there, too.I felt like this for a few years in my early-mid twenties, I think. Proud to pirate media.

Well sure, if Sony decides to not get a license to sell (rent) these movies, that is on Sony for offering a lesser service as you say. Yet, Sony is in no way obligated to continue to renew such a license indefinitely, whether their contract is worse or better than what other companies get is meaningless. Sony simply decide they weren't going to pay, as is their right. I am sure somewhere in the ToS people had to accept in order purchase any of these movies it clearly states the buyer could lose access at any time.I'd agree if it was happening on other platforms as well, would be an indicator of something unreasonable upstream with licensing - but absent that I put it all on the platform holder offering a lesser experience.
A ToS seems to be the strongest law that 99.9% of people ignore.I'd expect Sony to not sell something they cannot guarantee to have available later on and if they do I'd expect them to negotiate in a way that makes it so they only have to remove it from the shop without removing access to paying customers, but here we are and after that yes I do expect them to pay more for the license that they themselves decided to sell in the first place, or otherwise to reimburse people, if we lived in a world where corporations didn't dictate the laws. On the one hand yes. On the other hand these users paid for it and got the content stolen from them.I felt like this for a few years in my early-mid twenties, I think. Proud to pirate media.

I own things like The Expanse series, Babylon series, etc. on Blue ray. But I can go through a fucking laundry list of movies that Ive seen for almost a full decade and not a single one of them would I purchase a hard copy of. So the white knighting "pay for content you like" is still alive and well. But when 99% of the shit that comes out is fucking slop - you're not better than anyone pirating just because you pay for shit like Sinners or whatever fucking god awful movie thats came out.
Of all the things to be proud about, you're mad at people pirating when the very fucking conversation we're having is about a vendor nuking everyones fucking library. Fucking brain dead take.

So in the end fuck em all.

A nerve? No. I just think its "confusing to me" to be anti-piracy in a conversation where people were duped out of the licenses that they paid for. Very much in the same vein of thought, as stated by others, that apparently that company does not give a fuck about you as a consumer, and you should not give a fuck about them as a company. This isnt the first time this has happened and it wont be the last.If you like something and want to use it, shouldn’t you pay for it?
yep and I highlighted that in my post, that I do. Maybe you glossed over it.
If you don’t like something enough to use it, why are you pirating it?
Because if I watched 30 minutes of an episode of Wheel of time or Rings of power (for example) - should I be on the hook for the full amount of time? If I go shopping for a Shirt, dont I at least get to see it and try it on first? Why should this be any different?
Do you see the cognitive dissonance here? I just find it curious.
I dont have any contradictory feelings about the subject and I think its just as much of a prick question as you are insinuating that I'm being. Your passive aggressiveness and holier than thou attitude about the subject is very much "aggressive". I pirate as a way of "trying on the clothes" and if I like it, Ill pursue a proper way to watch what I want to watch. I liked some anime last year - I dont typically like Anime's. I subscribed to Crunchyroll to watch it in its entirety. I didnt have to, I didnt need to.
