Never got into Wow at all.
EQ was a great experience, but WoW was a more fun game. The raids were a lot more individually involved than just stepping behind a wall to avoid boss AE's. People had to be on their A-Game at all times or else you would wipe. I got into WoW because Furor invited me to an early phase of Beta. Max level was 29 and we were playing around with Scarlet Monastery. Then they upped the max level to 39. There were no mounts or talents back then. They just needed you to figure out the basic game and let them know if any content was broken. I remember right when beta was closing, they let everyone that wanted to attack Onyxia. That was a chaotic mess of death, but it gave us something to look forward to. Furor was all about PvP & Battlegrounds. I'm pretty sure he built Arathi Basin, but it was much different. It used to have a cap or 40 or even 60 people per side. A single battle would take upwards of 5-hours due to having so much opposition.

We're not in the MMO section so this is not relevant but I can say having spent multiple nights doing corpse runs due to wipes that 'people had to be on their A game at all times' is the stupidest thing I've heard. You do you bro.

EDIT: oh of course you're the one thing thinks Orange Box is a playstation game. I'll consider the source. This time I'm fine with coming on too strong.

I guess. Usually those terribly long corpse runs were not top tier raids. They were more pickup. You would easily wipe on end game bosses, but your monks would flop around and retrieve bodies for the raid. Then they made it even easier by using Necro corpse summon. But yeah, there were always crazy corpse runs on pick up raids in PoF & PoH. Then Nagafen & Vox. once they capped attackers at level 52.

They had it easy - the monks spending hours dragging their rotting corpses to the safe zone needed the A game. They just sat AFK until they were res'd lol

Arathi Basin was 40 v 40 for like the entire time of original WoW. I used to exploit the fuck out of it with my rogue on alliance.

40v40 makes sense. My memory from early early AB told me there were way too many people involved. With the game now limiting it to 15v15, that would make it a lot more manageable and quicker. I have no experience in the last since Burning Crusade, but I still remember how unforgiving it could be due to the entire team focusing on the person up front, killing them in seconds.

It was fucking not. It was 15 man, and it also wasn't even out the entire time of original WoW. It was after WSG and AV were both out and done to death

AV used to be 40v40 and went on for hours and sometimes days in early WoW. On our server there was constant people waiting to get into the match - the NPCs used to take forever to kill in shitty pre-raid gear. Someone would eventually summon the super mob and people couldn't group up, so opposite side would kill it and game would stalemate.

And ya, AB was much later on.
