Lets say we were playing a game about an African or Hindu or Chinese civilization, and one of the gods of their pantheon, who was historically depicted as having qualities of the faith's ethnic background, was turned into a white guy. How long do you think before all of games media was enraged?
Yeah, not long. Don't be mad because some people have a sense of fairness in the application of this new morality. Be angry at the hypocrites who don't and have made a crusade of 'ending white washing', while also cheering the reverse. The thing that annoys me the most is that this is even a thing--I absolutely don't give a shit if some made up figure is black, but I do care about social rules that are unfairly and arbitrarily applied which are clearly meant to demoralize us culturally.
And I don't mean having black figures demoralizes us--I mean us accepting double standards about our own culture representation is demoralizing, because we're made to believe race swapping is the epitome of disrespect for cultural works and then made to politely accept when its done to our cultural works. Whether you realize it or not, that promotes the idea that your culture is less important than others, less worthy of respect (And you can see this throughout the west, with many young people believing the west literally has no culture). Stop believing your culture isn't worth even a forum post, while others are worth entire media campaigns. It is. The West's cultural heritage is rich and deserves equal respect.
