A little less gravy? What are we talking about here, 50k more an episode per actor? Thats a million more per episode or 10mil more per season. The economicsmightwork out at that rate. But who is going to lock themselves into another 3+ years of GoTs extremely arduous filming schedule for such a piddly raise? Actors who can't get anything better, the ones playing in the minor roles who they could just as easily replace anyway.

Anyone in any breakout role is going to demand more, much more. Maybe they even deserve it, unfortunately the cast is too large and the show is too expensive to even consider it. In a cast with so many players it's never going to happen. Which is why showrunners andhbo execs have repeatedly stated 7 and done, despite all the ill informed fanboi forum posters arguing otherwise. It is never going to happen. The possibility of an 8th+ season is exactly 0.

So again, back here on earth the show runners are crafting the next 3 seasons to complete the entire asoiaf arc, and everything irrelevant to that story is getting cut. You guys will probably still be here debating whether "maybe they are saving lsh for season 8?" Long after season 7 ends, spring arrives, the great other is defeated and X is sitting the iron throne.
Quite a few people (Chaos in this case, but that was a long tangent hah) should be gloating if the President gets his way, lol. (Still a big if though; these pushes can fail, but given the licensing and other profits HBO is making, they can drive very large dump trucks of money to the actors houses...I could easily see 8 seasons, or seasons 6 and 7 being "extended" or "split seasons" (Which I fucking hate, I mentioned it earlier in the thread when we were all debating this.)

But given how quickly they had to expedite some things this season? I could only see that continuing to become worse. I think 10 more hours might work out well to make the pace easier and let Dorn get fleshed out more (It wasn't very well this season due to time)..As well as letting all the other arcs come back from the sea of dead story lines so they can all be wrapped up (Which is desperately needed; a lot of stories just sputtered into no where I think because the directors and writers have been constrained with that looming dead line of 7 seasons. I wonder how many of those can now be brought back in a tied off with 8 seasons.)

I'd much prefer they did that, and finished off those stories, like Robert's Bastard, the Clegane Bowl/Hound (Potentially), Rickon and all the other loose ends, plus maybe some flash backs we've been missing (Tower of Joy), all that would most likely just be forgotten if they tried to cram the final act into two seasons. (I mean, Dany coming home, the final war or reveal of the Other and Red God ect? Even if it were stripped down to just those resolutions, I think 20 hours would be short, given all the interplay at work.)

Money has always been the limiting factor. If the show remains highly profitable, then it isn't a big deal. If it begins to lose steam, then you are forced to choose between either pay actor salaries or invest in the setpieces (ie, the white walker army attack). Don't forget budget almost killed the Blackwater Bay episode (originally the battle was going to happen off screen until they convinced HBO to give them $$$$$$$$$$).

He also said he would be down for a prequel season if they wanted to go in that direction. Sounds like the network will take more GoT any way they can get it, as long as D&D are on board.
A season of Dunk and Egg, while it would be a hugely massive cockblock to most of the show's followers, I think would be awesome. Those are great stories.

It would also have the side effect of buying GRRM time - while a miracle might happen and he might get Winds of Winter out before season 6 starts, there is no way in hell he finishes the next one before season 7. Unless he is writing both at the same time right now.

Of course they will. Before this The Sopranos was their biggest show of all time, that is how long they have waited for another hit on this level. They will do literally anything for more GoT.

I would love a prequel series based on Dunk and Egg. I hope they try that, I think people would like the lighter tone as well.

I don't think we'll actually get a "prequel season" or anything to give GRRM more time. I think the public would be generally upset with that kind of delay, and they have no reason to give GRRM more time. They already have the story.

And I was just rewatching Deadwood these past couple of weeks. Holy fuck they better not short him on role/lines/screen-time, that dude is money.

He just needs to say cocksucker over and over again for one scene to guarantee an 8th and 9th season.

It's obvious who he is playing. And he will actually get to say cocksucker...after a fashion. The nature of prophecy and all that.

Oh I thought you meant septon meribald, monk-hound's grizzled former soldier-turned septon ninja sensei.

Meribald' part is actually in the casting call and it's definitely a small part, but his "broken men" monologue is widely accepted as the central thesis of ASOIAF's social commentary. I thought it was obvious since imagining that speech in al swearerengen's dulcet tones would definitely sell it:
