Marie Calendar's frozen turkey pot pies are a life-long guilty pleasure of mine. Completely disagree that the crust doesn't add anything. Biscuits, puff pastry, etc. are fine as well but a well made pie crust is one of the greatest things you can eat. Very few people actually make them themselves though. My mom is outstanding on it and I should really have her teach me one of these days. My dad always used to eat his pie crust end first and I thought as a kid he was getting the crust out of the way but as an adult I realized that the crust end is the best part of the pie.

Alton brown burgers i see in my future

I went to his show and it was a great time. He brought some steam powered machine to make I think 40 hotdogs /w buns in like 1 minute or something. Also he had a 10inch thick carbon steel plate that would stay heated for hours, since he wasn't allowed to use open flame in a theater, and he made scrambled eggs on it.

I found a pic of Barnabas Browns Weiner Wonder:

Alton Brown is a wiener. He is an excellent chef, and he demonstrates in a pretty decipherable way for pretty much anyone. But he's pedantic, and I don't like a lot of his methods. He often takes too many steps when it could be simpler. He's also often condescending. And while we're all nerds here, he's a poster child for nerds. Now, he embraces that to the point of hilarity, but I find him really grating to watch.

There's no substitute for experience. Try something new every day for about three months. Not hard, and even similar dishes are cool. You'll discover how much salt, how long to cook, all of those things. With that knowledge the sky is the limit. With a good, basic knowledge of cooking I believe the best instructor is Gordon Ramsay. His channel, along with basic cooking knowledge ends up with fantastic dishes. One thing about Ramsay that I really appreciate is he really tries to keep things simple. As few ingredients as possible, as short a cooking time as possible, all of those things. I think he's probably the most talented celeb chefs out there. With a little confidence, you can follow his lead.

rachel ray only had that one fhm cover, then she kept on eating her cooking
She was cute back in the late 90s early 00s, but then she ballooned out. Giada was the smoke show of the Food Network.

Marco Pierre White also falls into the same category as Ramsey, who worked for White and cut his teeth in whatever restaurant. I think Ramsey learned only having three or four ingredients for a dish from Marco, and he definitely followed in his footsteps, except expanded his whole food empire with his shows and what have you.

They're a ton of videos on YouTube now that he's retired. I don't know if they're old BBC episodes, they probably are, but I really enjoy watching them. Jacques Pepin is also great.

Like you said you just need to have a basic understanding of cooking, but you can learn a lot. That's why I like that Fallow restaurant channel. They assume that you know what the hell you're doing, but it's a nice deal especially to get ideas and up your technique.

I watch a lot of cooking stuff on YouTube, and I never watch anything like Sam the cooking guy or whatever and all the same sort of channels that have sprung up, but those professional chef deals, I always been able to take something away from it. Hell even Emeril has a channel and he's got some pretty good stuff on there, but I'll still watch old Justin Wilson or Paul Prudhome videos that somebody has uploaded.

I always referred to her show as "Everyday Italian with Giada's boobs."

She didn't always have the best recipes back when I used to watch food Network, but she was always easy on the eyes. I did everything for Rachael Ray though back when she was in her cute phase. Would have slipped her some salami too.

One tip I heard once was to over-season your food if it's something you can fix easily like a soup. I tend to under-season my food and over seasoning from time to time helps me tell when I'm getting close to making something too salty.

Shit, there are a lot of celeb chef dick riders in here. How yall feel about Anthony Bourdain?

Love Anthony Bourdain. He really was a pioneer. He was also willing to try any food in any culture, and he ate things I would never put in my mouth. He was a good dude, and I'm so sorry he hit depression so hard.

Edit: also, when cooking meat, season before cooking, during cooking, and after cooking.

I’ve never watched any of these chefs outside a random clip here and there, though I’ll admit giada de Laurentis’s first cook book is the only one I have.

Alton interviewed her on his short-lived podcast and she admitted that she didn't do well in culinary school and has no knife skills. I think it was more about being on TV for her than it was about food but the show was not the worst thing out there and it had her on it and she usually had those boobs out front and center which is worth at least a couple of stars.

Loved Bourdain on a cook's tour but the more I saw of him, he seemed so fake and phony, like a politician that has fake accents based on who they're talking to. I saw one episode where he went to sizzler in koreatown with some ko-am chef and talked about how it was a symbol of americana and childhood memories. If he were in NY and went with a white friend he'd probably say sizzler is embodiment of what is wrong with american corporate food culture. Maybe I'm being too sensitive but it felt like he was saying "oh... poor immigrants can go to sizzler this is fat white people food you can try, but my white friends will never step foot in this place." He sounded very condescending.

When he was on CNN promoting his korean episode, the dish he chose to make was "army stew" which originated from koreans dumpster diving american military base after the korean war. I think he chose it just to feed SPAM to anderson cooper and see his reaction. I'm not a big K-Pride guy, but that was insulting. There are people who lived during that era that won't eat it and don't even consider it korean food.
It's like him promoting filipino food by making

Giving credit to him for "willing to try any food in any culture" is a pretty low bar. If he really did kill himself, what a selfish piece of shit. If there is an episode where he gives some profound insight into humanity, I'll watch it with an open mind. I thought he was like a cool punk rock chef/foodie when I was in my 20s and I think it's all fake now that im in my 40s.

I'm ready for the negs, didn't think I'd be writing a drunk rant on bourdain, lol.
