Go play 5 mins of Doom 2016 and then play 5 mins of Last of Us. To say they are the same genre or game type is quite moronic.

I'm realizing that I spent most of my time in the PS3/360/Wii era playing WoW. Also nothing on PS1 or PS2 stood out as all time for me despite being, objectively, two of the all time great systems. I think college/grad school and lack of free time killed that era for me. I could make some honorable mentions:

I'm pretty much agree with the all the games that have been listed so far the only one I would add is Tecmo super bowl. I remember in college we had tournaments in our dorm for that game.

Ok I am retarded. My brain was thinking just shooter. I lump all shooters together in my mind because, mechanically, a shooter is still a shooter though, whether or not you include hand to hand elements or not in it.

But it is technically not first person, so....

Final Fight, Leisure Suit Larry, Actraiser, the open world Spider-man 2, Elite Beat Agents, Mario Party, any movie based game 2005-2009.

Wife and I still play Dr Mario vs every couple of weeks.

Final Fantasy. Whichever numbering system causes the most number of Sean style chimp-outs, that's the one I like the best.

Quake. It had NIN in it.

Fallout 3. I sold a child into slavery.

Everquest. Obv. Duh.

Halflife is automatic.

Total War: Rome 1. The best TW game ever.

Hearthstone. Even though I stopped playing it.

e-Sim. North Corea is Best Corea.

FTL. Rogue-likes are huge these days and this is the best of them.

And for my 8-bit entry; Ikari Warriors. But only with the ABBA infinite lives cheat.
