Wonder how many 970s were sold during that time, has to be a lot I would think

Submitted my claim. Got one back in April 2015. Didn't even know it was only 3.5gb; definitely advertised as 4gb (and is right there on order receipt/invoice).

Ok what's the gotchya on this one? I normally build my own PC upgrades. I am guessing very crappy components but on the surface, it looks like a steal.

Which Specific 1070? the closest is "discrete video card" which says to me that it is a compact so something like:

Gigabyte is offering overclocked, compact GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card

which means that you MAY have heating issues, and prob wont be able to OC it more than it already is. Which is fine.

No release date or price, faster than a 1080 will probably hit 13 TFLOPs or so performance wise.

What was the point of the Titan X again?
The Pascal one you can overclock pretty hardcore, unlike the 1080 which, if you buy one of the better partner boards, is about as topped out as it gets. You can easily bleed 20% more performance out of the Titan X, which is about 24% faster at stock clocks than the 1080. So for 100% more money, you can get around 40% more performance from a single card solution.

I have a 970GTX and it runs everything on max completely fine. I never go below 55 fps. Why would I shell out money for one of these video cards? No game in the next five years is likely to bring my computer to its knees. We've reached a point where graphics are being held back by artists and programmers, not technology.

That's fine. The time people buying now was because of the architecture changes needed lower power , less heat, and more power per dollar, and DX12. If you have a 970 you are fine. You aren't the market. Chill out.

I would buy a titan xp if they actually put a real cooler on it to max out the potential of the card. Seeing what that card can do with an ek waterblock on it is amazing. I bet that 1080ti is going to be around 1000 dollars with 3rd party cards putting their coolers and such on it.

Yep pretty much this. Fo rme, I had a 770 and upgraded to a 1070. If anything, I would be pissed had I bought a 970. I am sure it is great and all, but this thing blows a 970 out of the water.

As far as why? 4k resolution, gSync, etc - are the reasons why. If you are staying at 1080p or 1200p, doubt you will need another card forever with the way shit is being least common denominated.

I very much doubt a single 970 is running everything on max, even only at 1080. Especially if you're not a pleb and have a 144hz monitor.

You can't even run WoW at max on a 970 with all the graphical updates they put out not long ago. Still, GTX 970 is plenty for us pleb 1080p gamers (I've seen higher res and 144hz monitors and shit, the difference isn't enough for me to spend that much to replace my 2x 27" monitors).
