Been ages since playing GW2.

Really looking forward to whatever classes they have for GW3 though hoping they actually bring back Dervish shame they didn't actually bring it to GW2.

My favorite path for a casual-friendly game like GW2 is to let players no-life everything, but provide substantial but limited daily boosts that let someone earn it over longer periods of time with moderate total playtime. It's been a while but I remember the fractal reward system being a very good version of that in that you can grind fractals 24/7 but you get daily missions to do them to get a huge payout.

The hard-locked time gates are annoying for all the reasons you've stated.

I’m kinda disappointed it’s not set in the future.

I’m not sure what the story is these days but the remaining gods fleeing into the mists to start over was kinda cool and could have served as a neat modern reboot.

GW2 has no sub, no battlepass and is basically action combat now. So just an extension of GW1 and GW2.

Looking forward to this. GW2 and Black Desert are mmo's I spend the most time in. I prefer their take on the genre over the standard WoW theme park sludge. I just find the theme park mmo's extremely boring and out of gas. They do the same treadmill garbage over and over. And having all your gear thrown out every expansion doesn't help.

It's crazy to me that 14 years later I'm unaware of any MMO that's built beyond the dynamic event system in GW2.


This article is from pre-release but the map rings true, where it describes how an event system flows based on conditionals. Anyone who has played GW2 knows how fun it is to see an event unfold.

I'd love to see an MMO that takes this system and makes it more procedural such that even as the community builds around scheduled rampages of events there's enough randomness that the same event doesn't play out the same way everytime. If GW3 stays true to the concept of horizontal progression, they have so much freedom to let events get a little wild without having to worry about players being butthurt over not being able to optimize their grind.

Does anyone play the old zones still? I have always enjoyed just starting over and leveling. May have to give it another casual playthrough

Yes they are amongst the most lively due to f2p being limited.

I played last year for about 4 months and unlocked all the mounts and gliding etc. I enjoyed my time but the later expansions felt small and lacked the charm of the base game and first couple expansions.

they also royally fucked WvW PvP. I’m not the best at explaining how as I wasn’t around when it was the draw but there’s lots to read about it. Whenever I tried there was no groups and no one to fight.

Walking into the later expansions felt like a night and day difference. It was one of the first times I quit the game after finally giving it a chance. Came back and played it again with my g/f at that time, and we went through some of it. But even she said she didnt like a lot of the new shit and she was about as casual as you could get while still playing an MMO.

Tuco Tuco is right though, the progression of events was down to a science and when I actually took the time to read the shit - some of them were really good.

I have been looking for more info on GW3 and it sounds like they are not going to do another big open world game like GW2 again this time but something smaller and different, with elements like Dune Awakening. So another GW2 is probably not in the cards but something between GW and GW2 with elements of both and new, more action oriented combat, potentially based around new more forward looking concepts from other games trying to push MMO/MMO-Lites forward.

I'm less excited than I was; I wanted Classic GW2 but I guess we'll see what they deliver.
