Keg, if you are going to troll, you need to at least be believable. Claiming to like the prequels breaks the suspension of disbelief.

Good to see so many experts on making movies from reading magazine articles. OMG THEY WANTED EXTRA ANGLES.

Maybe they're just not reading the right articles. You don't see interviews with editors making the rounds that much (outside of directors who do their own editing) but of the ones I've read where they're talking about the process itself, to a man they've all said that something can't make it into the cut if it was never shot in the first place. That includes shots that you have but not from the position that was needed for a particular scene or a take that was not quite 'there'.

So the extra angles comment in the article isn't an indication of Kennedy wanting plenty of material for her edit but she's been around long enough to know how editors work. One of the luxuries of a big budget production is that you can afford to shoot a lot of footage. If you have the luxury why not use it?

And my understanding about the amount of shots in Rogue One is that it's wasn't a situation where it was demanded of Edwards that he take all sorts of extra shots but rather that Edwards himself was supplementing all of the usual planned shots by operating a smaller camera himself in tight on the scenes to get some footage for an embedded, war reporter vibe for some of the action pieces.

I really don't give a fuck about any of this bullshit and people picking sides. SImply put if the story fucking blows I don't care who the actors or directors are. I want a great Star Wars movie not a movie that I only like because it's in the Star Wars Universe.

If by sides you mean Lucasfilm (ie. Kennedy/Kasdan) vs. Lord and Miller then I'm not on anyone's side either. Not in this clusterfuck at least (though I am firmly in the "No George, you just stay on the ranch and enjoy retirement." camp). Mainly because a lot of the information making it's way into the public eye is primarily one group or the other and their allies slipping stuff out there trying to control the narrative. And also because while I have enjoyed some of the work of the directing duo and was at least marginally interested in their take on the material I also have quite a bit of respect for the other side as well (primarily Kasdan here, since he was one of the creative minds behind the franchise when it was at it's best and one of the people most responsible for crafting Han Solo into the character as we know him today).

Right now it just looks like a situation where the directors chosen, while talented, were a poor fit for the project at hand. And admittedly that ultimately falls on Kennedy regardless of some of the particulars. Though I will say that in spite of my respect for the guy I think Kasdan is a larger player in all of this than a lot of people are currently acknowledging. I think Kennedy considers him a fellow steward of the franchise and is probably deferring to him a lot on this as the producer. That may ultimately prove to have been a mistake as well.

Just because a Produce is making hiring/firing decisions doesn't mean they are destroying the franchise/film. Directors are not benevolent. Most are too narrow focused to understand the big picture. They need outsiders (producers) to reign them in. Directors are focused on performances and storytelling but their visions can either be too limited or too grande, someone needs to find the balance otherwise the Director will just do wtfever.

More shooting angles isn't a negative. It's perfectly fine/normal. You want a lot of angles/options. Some directors either don't know how to coordinate multi-cameras or are so narrow-focused they just don't care because it's not part of their vision. And many just don't have experience with large productions. If you limit yourself then the studio will be sinking a ton of time/money into reshoots, which aren't easy tbh. The set might have already been repurposed and now you need to recreate it the way it was to do a 1 second reshoot to get the right angle.

I remember in the documentary for LoTR, Peter Jackson flew to Andy Serkis home to shoot some footage of Serkis because they were missing an angle, even though they would CGI everything anyway, he still wanted Serkis' performance. Imagine if it wasn't CGI, they just wouldn't have the angle at all.

Acting coach is whatever, this is a tough film to make since he needs to replicate someone else's performance, it's very understandable that a coach is brought in to help sync things up as best as possible. Should have had the coach sooner, but certainly not a red flag even if brought on later.

Film-making in general is not often flowers and sunshine, it's stressful for most people. Tight deadlines & budgets will do that. It's easy to write an article that all hell is breaking loose when 99% of film production is stress & craziness. Honestly, the editing is probably the "relaxing" time, but you're still stressed if you got everything. Cause if you miss just 1 shot it could be budget-breaking.

The acting coach bit is something that strikes me as having been specifically included the way it was to generate buzz for the piece. I don't doubt that they brought one in for Ehrenreich at all. Lot's of actors, even accomplished ones, utilize coaches of various sorts for certain performances during their careers. But just saying they brought a coach in without any elaboration as to why beyond someone thinking it might help is a bit of lazy journalism.

I've only seen a couple of Ehrenreich's performances and he certainly didn't seem to be a talentless hack of an actor who can only get work through the influence of others, though I'm sure he came with his share of recommendations attached. If they brought in the person that Lord and Miller suggested (their writer-director from 21JS) then it could very well be that it had to do with their more improvisational approach to shooting and Ehrenreich perhaps not being experienced or proficient at that style.

My experience is primarily independent films and my buddy has been working as a Producer for over 10 years now. I did several films under him but have since left that industry. Largest film he's done might be 3-5million budget, most films have been 1million or less. It's a shit ton of wannabe-directors that think they know everything but really don't and as the producer you have to battle with their "vision" to make sure you get all the required shots just to be sure you aren't fucked during editing.

Chris Miller/Phil Lord might make some decent movies but there's a big difference between 21 Jump Street / Lego Movie and a Star Wars movie. Bringing in Ron Howard makes a lot of sense. He has the big-budget experience. It is a learning curve for sure and if you're a Director that isn't willing to learn then you're going to get replaced by someone else with experience.

No I'm not suggesting that. When I say Kennedy deferring to Kasdan as producer may end up having been a mistake I'm talking about having expanded Kasdan's role beyond writing the movie in the first place.

is this movie is even watchable its going to be a miracle. changing the entire plot and director 3 weeks before filming is supposed to wrap.

if ron howard can pull it off though he will definitely rise above every other tier 1 director on the planet.

I don't think they're changing the entire plot. Kasdan isn't going to boot one set of directors for not following his script closely enough for another that will come in and do the same and a plot change would require a rewrite which they don't have time for and I doubt Kasdan would be inclined to do. As good as he is at writing he says he hates the process of it and he's not known for knocking out scripts in record time. A greater emphasis on Jabba could very well be a way of streamlining the remaining production by condensing a couple of other players into his role.

On the other hand, you these guys crafted successful new film franchises at the ground level and they know how to make a fun movie. And then there is James Gunn who was left to do what he wanted and crafted what is arguably the best part of the MCU. There are plenty of dipshit directors who would benefit from a good producer, but that's not Kennedy. I mean just look at what happened since Hamill made her eat that public shit sandwich, she basically is personally escorting him to every PR event like a fucking zoo handler doing damage control. This is never going to be more than a Disney on her watch. She is no Kevin Feige, for certain. The prequels need artistic freedom to be gritty and funny. Leave the nostalgia kiddy milking for the main saga.

The only good to come out of the prequels was watching Palpatine crush that faggot religion from within. The only funny or even useful memes are the ones involving NOOOO or the high ground.
