It gets down to being accurate to the character. The actor himself delivered one line, and it was delivered with the amount of spite I’d expect and was appropriately menacing. Probably not an acting chops problem, but don’t fucking race change characters. Particularly ones that will have a complicated story that will not be co-opted for a bunch of false racism. Racism that doesn’t work because they already have a higher level prejudice that puts people in two categories already in a much more deadly situation than racism in 1995.

Hermione is annoying too. But I think they cast a half Indian half white actress or something. Plus she’s a kid and not 100% making her own decisions and probably idolizes the book character. The guy playing Snape could have said he respected the character and Alan Rickman too much.

Probably correct. The local bookstore still has an aisle full of Harry Potter toys and things. A lot of Harry Potter things.

Harry Potter is still popular by itself, but the show is under intense scrutiny for every choice made compared to the movie and there is the subset who will claim they are not supporting it simply because they hate JK Rowling. Most of those will still watch it in some form but not admit to it. Can't call it hate-watching because if she dropped dead the week before the first episode aired all of them would openly support it then.

The cast seems weak for this. I'm a fan of the books. My only interest in watching this is too see how much of the stuff that was cut in the movies shows up. Like there is a shitload more Elf stuff through the books.

Him no, i think they will make him cute and a character to sympathize with like they did in the movies. The Goblet of Fire film cut out the part where the kids see & learn that Hogwarts is literally run on an unpaid and bound slave work force, those are the ones I mean. Dobby ends up working in the kitchens too after Chamber but because he was freed he got a salary by Dumbledore

Also all the Elves pretty much love their lives and Hermione goes all Karen trying to "help" them.

I was kind of mad they didn't even show Kreacher and the Elves helping to defend Hogwarts in the final battle. Kreacher fighting in Regulus' name against Voldemort was kind of his shining moment.

If I were in Harry's shoes Kreacher would have been in several pieces and Dumbledore could fuck right off if he didn't like it. The moral ambiguity of House Elves almost feels like it doesn't belong in the series, or it's meant to mentally stimulate older readers while just being an easy to understand lesson for younger kids.

I'm going to give this a chance no matter how bad the teasers look. My current favorite thing about the HP universe is how much libtards love it while hating JK Rawlings. If you're not sure whether a particular HP fan is a libtard, no problem. Just bring it up and wait 5 seconds to see if they are compelled to denounce her. It's almost as bad as vegans and crossfitters.

The casting for Harry is a miss. Everything else is fine, including black Snape. I just can't see this kid as Harry and holding these scenes down.

yeah, i don't have HBO, but I would be willing to watch it for the same reason. I'd rather piss off the left, then complain about Black snape. It'd have to start adding more and more on the pile to make me nope out.
