Up there with, "Wow, I've never seen that before!". Fortunately for me it was just my knee, not a critical organ.
She worked in a variant of that as well...

"Looking at this old CT scan this was a simple cyst, then it suddenly turned complex, and one on the other kidney as well? That just doesn't happen."

She wants to throw me through some genetic screening for some short list of strange possible causes.

Beware of these and make sure that she obtains insurance preauth before running it, especially if it's a "shotgun" panel with 10s/100s of different genes, unless you are willing to pay significant dough out of pocket if it comes back denied.

Health plans very rarely consider these medically necessary.

So today I have the follow up with my urologist over the recent CT scan involving my lovely mass on my left kidney, and going over how they now discovered a mass on my right kidney as well....

And I can add a new one to "things you don't want to hear your Dr say" list....

"I need to refer you to another Dr here in the practice, he handles all the most complicated situations."

Give her credit for knowing where she is on the surgical stack ranking I suppose. But don't feel great that my situation is now complicated enough to have her need to call in backup.
Being referred to a more skilled surgeon at the same practice isn't that big a deal, it's when they want to send you to another practice entirely that your butthole should start clenching.

Shit I think I'm cooked then.

Had a surgery consult, female surgeon...she couldn't do the surgery so referred me an hour away to another practice up in dc...

New doctor is black, but at least he's a man?

Surgery is scheduled for next month. Pray for me

Whelp, some good news for this forum. I got my last 3 month CLEAR brain MRI yesterday (2 years straight of 3 month scans). I go on 6 month MRI/follow ups now AND today I was 100% cleared for the Malignant Melanoma (I feel skeevy just typing that) on my left ear. I am allowed to take real showers now (no having to waterproof my ear). Cancer is trying to kick my ass, I have a bunch of fucking scars from it but so far it's ME 2, Cancer 0!!!!

last june, the bottom front part of my left foot had a little numbness, sorta like stepping on wool or sand. no pain, very intermittent. they thought it could be my back to looked into that off and on over the last year, anyway, saw a foot doctor today. the same orthopedic place i went to for my hand/elbow, but was way worse, took over 90 mins to see the doctor, he didn't know what it was, but did give me a shot for another issue. anyway, he started off asking a bunch of questions
"history of drug use?"
no
"no drugs?"
huh, never
"no injections?"
what? no
"well, looks like you have couple of pieces of needles between your toes"
opens tablet to xray, there are 2 about 3/4 inch "sticks" pointing in different directions between 2 toes. no idea how they would have gotten there. he pressed on the area a bunch, but no pain.

I wouldn’t worry about the gender or race of a trained surgeon, or doctor tbh. If there is one final last bastion of meritocracy in 2025 America it is surgical training programs. In 2025 your bigger problem is you have to make sure you’re actually seeing an MD/DO instead of an online degree nurse

Hope you are right, surgery is tomorrow.

If you don't hear from me then you'll know

last week when i saw the foot doctor, who didn't know what was causing my foot tingle. he did suggest 2 things diabetic issues, conferred with my pcp, she said almost zero chance it is that and that it could be related to my parathyroid issue and partial removal (they removed 2 of the 4). anyway, contacted my endocrinologist had labs done Friday morning and everything was in the green. was reading low parathyroid hormone can be bad, don't know if supposed to be still dropping it went from 46 to 28 to 18. the surgeon did say was a chance of having to take monthly lifetime shots

calcium is still good, but also dropping

with all my labs showing good, last night got a massive leg cramp that woke me up around 2am. pretty sure it was the worse one i have gotten after my pcp put me on extra magnesium last oct.
