When I was a kid 11-12 I jumped off our front porch onto a nail. Got it WAY up in there. They cleaned the hole and packed it full of gauze. I had to keep it in there for a few days. Real fun when they pulled it out.
I had a nail go through my foot at that age. They put a bandaid on it and gave me a tetanus shot.

One of my crowns just fell out the night before halloween, and I don't got time to go to the dentist until friday. I'm still gonna eat candy with my exposed nub and aint nobody can stop me. Maybe I can polydent this shit back in or something. Where Sanrith Descartes Sanrith Descartes to ask questions about dentures when you need him.

Antibiotics are an important tool that can be abused/misused/incorrectly prescribed like any other. Unfortunately, we often don’t know long term/over use/multiple order effects.

add in pharmacy industry fuckery for extra fun
Yea, I really try to avoid antibiotics when they aren't completely necessary. I think they can cause some huge harms as a side effect. That said, they also can pretty much save your life... But I sure as heck aint touching them unless I'm in that category or in a situation that can quickly put me in that category.

I definitely go out of my way to rebuild my gut culture afterwards too. Doing things like making your own sour cream/yogurt/sour dough starter are a great way to introduce local bacteria back into your system and taste great too.

I didn't get intubated but when I was transferred down to Barnes they placed a central line in anticipation of a thoracotomy that ended not being done. Was a bit of a surprise to wake up with a jungle of IV lines sprouting out of my neck but the indescribable pain from what they did carve out of my chest was a pretty good distraction.

somewhere in my heel. It's been decades since that happened man. I barely remember yesterday!
Ouch. I grew up on a ranch in Texas and I’d always run around barefoot and had a few times stepping on nails. My parents were pretty poor and they said that I’d always remove my shoes despite their best efforts. One benefit of it as an adult is I have very tough feet.

They’d always just rinse my foot under water and apply supply to close the wound. Which in retrospect is definitely not the best medical care but I survived. Survivorship bias, maybe.

pretty much had a rule of “if you’re sick longer than 3 days, we’ll go to the doctor.”

Update:

This AFIB has ruined my life.

Prescribed medicine does fuck all to prevent it or stop it once it has started.

Had to go to ER for pneumonia the other day and started AFIBing while I was there. they injected liquid metoprolol into my system and that still wouldnt stop it.

I feel utterly fucking hopeless. I ripped out a chunk of my hair today. I get frustrated at times and slam my fist into my heart in a vain attempt to stop this shit.

This is easily the worst thing that has ever happened to me.

Asked for ablation back in July, and cardiologist wouldnt sign off on it. seeing new cardiologist Tuesday and hopefully they'll feel differently

I cant fucking do this anymore

I don’t enjoy life anymore, I’m either A) in active AFIB and miserable B) not in AFIB but dreading the next time it happens

Thanks to having the tumors I've had ablated this year I've been put under general anesthesia more this year than the rest of my life combined. For me it's that I'd have a painfully scratchy/irritated throat for probably 2 weeks solid after each time.
I'm not an expert on such things but why do they need to intubate you for this? I've only been under 4-5 times in my life and they've never intubated me, just curious.

I have no idea. It just started this year, this year was the first time I've been intubated while being put under but it seems to happen every time now. I think they're lazy and don't want to monitor O2/breathing properly and it's easier to violate my throat with plastic.

My dude, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I can't imagine how frustrated and disheartened you must be. The only advice I can give that I hope is helpful is to play the long game. You'll get the AFIB under control with your doctors. You'll get the oblation if you need it. You've got decades left to live and feel good. You'll get this. You've got this.

Abdominal surgery. Aspiration risk. Usually a good idea to tube. Otherwise laryngeal mask for most othre stuff.

That would explain it, as all my other procedures weren't abdominal in nature.
