eh. looks a bit generic.

Also, going to have to do some real work to sell me on how this super trap house was built. a problem with "trap house" movies. especially after games. they get bigger and bigger, and more complex. original texas chainsaw was just a house with a basement.. silence of the lambs.. house with basement with dug well.

and even with that, so many trap house movies, going to need something interesting to sell it. The obvious I would think here is, this guy is part of their church. so, hes not some rando, that was just waiting for people to show up at his trap house. The church is in on it, and actively sent the young missionaries to test their faith. I think that would be a viable twist. explain the how and why. bonus points if the indoctrination works, and the girls do come out of it with a revelation and are even more zealous in the good work after.

Yeah that could easily be a weak point plot wise, but I do like your idea that the church is in on it. I don't know at least it looks somewhat different, what's better than another superhero movie. I'm sure when it gets the Shudder or Prime I'll give it a shot. I have faith in A24.

Is this a movie full of all white people??? I might have to watch it just for that. Although maybe their rescuer will be a strong black womyn.

I like the two girls they picked, attractive but understated, and true to the whole Mormon thing I suppose. The glasses chick is very cute.

I agree with Caliane though, convoluted plans or trap houses or whatever just annoy me now. Saw was fun when it was new, but anything that requires a lengthy number of events to happen in a specific order and/or time for the next event to happen is just too unbelievable for me. I love bank heist movies, but when it is obvious that one little misstep in their 48 step plan would fuck it all up, I end up just rolling my eyes instead of enjoying it. Maybe this movie will be different, but like, the minute some weird fuck traps me in his house and starts explaining how I have to pick my path or whatever, I'm looking for something, anything to brain the fucking guy. Coat rack, paper weight, whatever. You lost any benefit of the doubt the minute you locked me in your house. That's why I've always said some of those prank shows from 10-20 years ago were just asking for someone to get fucking murdered because the victim thought, "Fuck, if I'm gonna go out, I'm taking them with me."

But I might still watch it in the hopes it exceeds my expectations, and that the girls get naked (they won't).

I really enjoyed this, I thought it was going one way and went completely different, hugh grant was great.

not sure what others will think but one of the better A24 offerings I’ve watched.

Only caught half of the movie before I had to get one of my kids, but I thought Hugh Grant did an incredible job and I am really looking forward to finishing it up.

The two young actresses also did a pretty solid job and are certainly easy on the eyes

Only found a cam version last night. Did I miss it on an actual streaming service or is it like $24.99 to rent?

Yeah I think when they come out on screaming it's now 20 or 25 bucks to rent. I think they're trying to get you to buy the damn thing because it might be $5 cheaper to rent and $5 more just to buy it. I just sit back and wait. Not as if I'm going to lose any sleep not seeing it right away.

I finally watched long legs the other day but even then it went down from like 25 to $10, I figured what the hell that's as much as I would spend at the movie theater but at least I can sit and drink a beer and make popcorn at the house.

We just stopped for the night watching Longlegs. Baby bed time. Got about 55 minutes in to it and really like it so far. Will probably jump over to that thread after we finish tomorrow night.

I enjoyed it. It was worth the 10 bucks or whatever to rent it. I really like the black coats daughter though, and part of me says this might be in the same universe. If Perkins continues to make these types of movies, I could see him loosely winding together some sort of mythos around it all. Could be a neat deal because you don't typically see that with horror films other than sequels to a franchise like nightmare on elm Street.

I think you'll enjoy it.
