Yeah I miss these games too. I enjoyed MMX even with its issues and it really made me want a really well done version. Guess I should learn to code and make one myself. Weird that no one makes them. Not exactly relevant to this thread, but nowhere else to put it really. Am I the only one that desperately wishes for another Might & Magic X/Wizardry type game? Except with somewhat recent QoL improvements.
I have watched literally every video and read every AI slop article on the subject, and while there have been plenty of recommendations, almost every one of them comes with mediocre reviews or caveats about the game being super tedious or the dev being a dickhead, etc. The ones I've tried have sucked balls and I returned them.
I'm tired of tactically moving shit around like in XCOM where if you fuck up and overexpose someone you're reloading that 10 minute battle because your favorite character just got smoked. I just want 6'ish dudes across the bottom of my screen that take turns with the enemy via initiative, maybe even with front/back line mechanics, and abilities. And none of the bullshit real time shit like Legend of Grimrock (which is a great game) where you're dodging fireballs and timing spike traps and shit. Just grid movement and encounters, that's it. It would be fucking great if it were somehow endless too, but that's asking for too much I realize.
They were just way too grindy for me. I hated drawing the maps too. I did play a couple but never finished due to the grind. The etrian odyssey games were the closest to a modern blobber, but weeb and not quite the same.
i tried to watch it, and it is ABSURDLY weak compared to past games. at least as far as my meager testing went. I played a hero with it. bought the laws that gave a boost and ranked it up a couple times. i started to steam roll the low-end areas. i had deplomacy and skeleton converted most of the trash i aquired till i wans't loosing anything around the area i started in.Really not digging the art direction on this one and it seems kinda all over the place. Music is great, however.
I played a game as undead and the T3 unit literally named "Undead Pets" made me roll my eyes. Like come on guys a miriad of different undead units you could have uaed and you had to use a skeletal dog? Also I'm probably just being retarded but is there no necromancy? I have the skill, but I never got anything to indicate it did anything.
I kinda liked the mapping. But as you say given how long and grindy those games are - it eventually becomes a bit much. Definitely would love another X. Still play it in spurts every year or so. Lost my save multiple times because of the retarded location it keeps them and replacing drives/ redoing OS. Keep starting new saves to smash some barrels and mobs with. They were just way too grindy for me. I hated drawing the maps too. I did play a couple but never finished due to the grind.
