When is Blizzcon? They said on the HOTS subreddit that this is still just the final phase of alpha and does not mean when it opens back up that is closed beta.
It won't be closed beta when it opens back up but they are implementing Bnet in to it now so they are clearly getting close to beta. They want your friends to see that you are playing it now. Pretty huge step forward imo vs what they have been doing.

They did say they will not wipe money/gold transactions. There is still a chance your account and hero levels could be wiped prior to release.

They removed much of the gold you get via player level. But yeah I assume you'd get it again on a per-hero basis.

Have they changed it so you can customize controls yet? Its hard as hell for my mind to right click to move and it sucked not being able to change that when I tried playing a few times.
The showing friends playing is a nice change also. I would probably play it a lot more if I could see my friends playing it on our lists. I swore though that early on it would show people in HoTS, at least I think?

Yes you can rebind the keys now. I don't know if they made it so you can move abilities on the number keys list yet. That really needs to happen. Having your rewind or other active move around from key to key makes muscle memory nearly impossible.
