I love the blinds between the glass in doors. They never get dirty. It does suck if they break though.

As it should be...
season 8 showtime GIF by Shameless

Parents have two doors to their patio with the build in blinds, they still function properly and well after years and years of grandkids playing with them. I like them, and my fear was that the internal blinds would get jacked and then your done mode...but theirs have lasted.

Get a good, prehung door, don't do a storm door. They actually don't prolong the life of your door. A good door, one treated correctly for the elements, should last 40 years.

We decided on a roof... fancy metal...for still too much but not the few bros that were 60-70k stupid, just dumb lol... everything is going up in price. Prices for this type of stuff is doubtful to fall in any significance anytime soon, and highly probable to increase lol

Now the wife wants a new front door, paint the garage door and stuff to spruce up the house to match the fancy roof lol... oh lord...then comes "and I guess it is finally time to do the big kitchen reno!" ahh oh lawdy.

Had her ask the Lowes guy a general cost of installing a door just so she knows "700$ plus 200$ permit" lol gtfo

Just a word of warning, under no circumstances farm any job out through Lowes. We had the gutters redone on our old house with them. The company they subbed out to was the most incompetent group of dipshits I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We went to Lowes when they missed their first appointment and then again later to get all their fuckups rectified and they passed all the legwork back on to us every time. Here's their number, call them. Motherfuckers, we paid you, not Fuckup Inc, I didn't need some worthless middle man to skim money off the top. Pulling a permit on replacing a door sounds like something they'd do (or at least charge for it and never actually do it).

Home depot wasn't much better. We had them do our cabinets in this house. First thing they require is you pay them to come do measurements. In my case it was existing cabinets. They would not accept my measurements.

Final install I can see bare floor cuz they fucked up the measurements, this was during COVID so long wait for install, long wait for incorrect install, long wait for corrections.

Then they had the gall to complain because I would not give them a 'nailed it 5 star' rating.

Think I may have posted it in this thread, but 2.5 years ago I had Home Depot put in a blackout blind. They fucked the measurements up twice. The first time they double charged me before refunding the first one. I told them we needed to do that the other way around for try 3, because I didn't want to be that low on funds in my checking account. They told me to fuck off. I tried reversing the charge through my bank, and got told to eat shit. Finally lodged a complaint through the BBB, and they did a full refund.

Same thing, though. They farmed that shit out through useless bags of shit contractors. I did finally get it taken care of by a professional company in town this year. It did cost more, but it was done right.

Oh yeah…

I had HD do my carpet when I moved in… that was 12-13 years ago. I do not think I would use them now a days even for that. I just wanted a generic price point for install for the wife to understand, the “get a new door” is not just “that one looks nice, its 500$” it’s “that one looks nice its 1500$….”

Kitchen… I will do that myself, I did the current kitchen and all the flooring thats not carpet in the house.

I always try to search for a local or in state provider just to see what is out there and these guys popped up in NW Arkansas for doors. Showed my wife what custom exterior and interior could cost and now she references things by the number of doors that would be.

I don’t know anything about these people or make a claim they’re any good, just had it bookmarked to look into down the road.

so this has been my blower for a few years, a huge heavy chonker

like all gas things it takes like 10 pulls, i have to adjust the choke right to get it started, but once it starts, it's fine.

as i was doing yardwork it died and locked up, smelled "burnt" and i couldn't hulk smash pull the cord no matter what.

i've had this happen to my gas pressure washer b4, but i know that all i have to do is release the pressure (just squeeze the handle and let out water) and it's fine again.

i just said fuck it and went to hd
i didn't even know deals were going on, but they were

the shitty ryobi 40v battery alone goes for over $100, wth, lets try

this light little shit is better than that gas monstrosity i've been using for almost 8years

burst power is great (i have wet leaves now), only con is that it is an energy vampire.

It pains my soul… 46k

Orig price was 56k - did a back and forth a few times while I had them modify and put some stuff I wanted and clarifications in writing in the form.

50/50 overlap synthetic underlay, additional valley and ridge underlay “ice” system, foam back insulation under each metal sheet, bla bla bla- this is the style and color.

Yeah, it’s expensive. Yet sadly it is, “the price now days” apparently. It’s cat 5 rated, 2 inch hail as well. Transferable warranty bla bla. Company and installer are BBB A+ if thats worth anything.

apparently… you start w a+. And if you dip to A or below, you cant get back the plus. So longevity and the plus are “good signs” …as much as the BBB is worth (as far as you can throw them)

All things being equal I would use a contractor that was with the BBB. As many times as I've used the BBB , even against business that weren't affiliated.
Also when I initially read your quote above I wondered wtf a roof had to do with Cat 5 cables lol. Too much of a geek I guess.

I think the BBB is “better” now than the rep it had in the 90s as I grew up.

The company that i bought it from and the installer “partner” - neither of them said “look we are BBB A+!!!” they just were, as I looked them up. also each are 4.X stars google. now the 67k metal roof people did say “look at our BBB profile! vs /these guys/“ so.. I guess it kind of is a feel and philosophy thing… do you strive just for “the rating” and then live off it and push it? or, just do good and naturally have the rating and let it be the good it is naturally?

the people I did go with did mention they have good feedback and reviews, as expected but the rep also was like “we have installed 1000s of roofs… we are human, installers are human..we wont have ONLY perfect reviews but we always aim to resolve issues, its roofing…there will be issues by nature of the business” may be well scripted but is also true.

lol cat5 cable…. being in tech and in Florida… lol cat5 are all over! in all ways!
