I have a Huskey (chinesium) from Home Cheapo. Its 1200 lumen rechargeable thats great. It has adjustable beam and the thing thats nice is that its rechargeable by USB C. But in a pinch it came with a battery pack thingie that you put like 3-4 AAA. It can also charge your device when in a pinch. Not sure how much it would charge it but its there if you need it. Anything with 1200+lumens and a "CREE" bulb is the ticket.

Costco had a good one last time I was there. Dont remember the make or model but it was pretty cheap, bigger than the huskey and im assuming even more lumens. I think its this one...

Plus you could hit someone over the head with this thing in a pinch too, lol.

Mass produced Chinese flashlights are really fucking good now. I don't think there's much point in spending a lot of money on them. I think the lumen ratings are kind of bullshit, but if it says some outrageous number on it, you can probably rest assured that it's going to be almost shockingly bright. I don't know how a little AA powered flashlight can be as bright as the giant spotlights we had back in the day that would set your car seat on fire if you set it down but they are.

On the other hand, if you're a tool whore like me, anything made by Olight is going to be solid.

Wish I could remember more details about the one I had that stopped working. It was basically a handheld floodlight, probably like 12000 lumens. All I know is I could light up the far side of a river that's roughly 200 feet wide. Used it to patrol said river a few years ago when I kept hearing weird screeching noises and thought someone was fucking about with wildlife. After a couple of incidents, I managed to find the culprit and it was... raccoons loudly mating.

Regardless, the floodlight in question was probably about as powerful as a helicopter spotlight. It was absolutely nuts. It also had a "lantern mode" where the sides would light up enough to be like a normal room light (good for a tent), another mode that made it flash in SOS code, and another mode that flashed red and blue like police lights. Not sure what I could use the last one for, but the other modes were all useful.

Anyone have advice on buying flashlights?

I got an extremely powerful floodlight back in 2020 that just died off after several years (with minimal use, no less). I need to replace the big floodlight I had, and I'd like to also get two smaller flashlights that are powerful enough to cut through darkness. The one I had could light up the far side of a river (about 200 ft) with ease and I want something at least that powerful again. I'll take any suggestions on a brand to go with, or even just what amount of lumens to shoot for.

i would check slickdeals, those people love to collect lights, then follow up with youtube reviews, most times isn't hard to find legit reviewers.

this is one of my favorite review channels, they also have vids covering how silly/bad the lumen claims are

Ive even gotten some shipped direct from china a while back. (I like my flashlights) and they are all pretty decent, really cheap, like $6-$20 but they take like a month or two to get here.

Before I call someone out I'd like to troubleshoot some things. Having an issue with hot water here. Main issue is it takes like ~5+ minutes for the water to heat up if we take a shower. We also need to crank it to max.

From the boiler side everything looks set OK. I changed lower limit on the heat to 165F with a 10 degree differential. The internal temp in the boiler in the gauge matches what I set. However, showers and sinks just get hot very slow.

We have on demand hot water with a tiny little expansion tank, so my first thought is there is a sensor that is dead somewhere in the chain, but I'm really dumb about HVAC.

We've always had issues in the winter but now that it's warming up it feels like something else is wrong.

FWIW, we serviced the boiler 1 year ago.

Not super familiar with boiler setups, but do you have hard water? My sister has a heat exchanger with her boiler and needed to descale/flush it when that happened to her.

Should be a circulation pump somewhere on the hot water return loop. I would lean towards the pump is probably bad. Or the loop is shut off.

I have a tech coming out tomorrow, hot water still works but I feel like something is failing. He thinks it might be a mixing valve. Guess we'll see.

Something interesting on the expansion tank is one year a bunch of water leaked out of it then just stopped. I saw the puddle but then the system just worked so I just wanted to monitor it. Maybe the tank is just completely gone.

LOL and my kid (HVAC tool)is trying to get me to switch over to one of these on demand hot water systems from the old school tank heater I still have. No thanks. I think last time I replaced my tank it took me like 2 hours and $600.

yea that means the bladder failed, happened to me, you can test it by using a tire gauge, if its at like 10, probably dead, you can inflate it to see if it holds any psi, it should be the same number coming out of your hose
