Wouldn't that control both outlets though?

There is a switch nearby that doesn't go with any ceiling lights. I'll give it a try.

Yep, that works, Big Lanx got it.

Weird that only half the outlet is connected to that switch and not the other half.
This is done pretty often, though usually I think they will flip those outlets upside-down so they're identifiable, but yeah, it's usually the top outlet on it.

If you break off these tabs on both sides then you can wire each plug separately.

Outlets on light switches is something I hate. It was very popular in the 50-70s. They had some strange hate for overhead lighting, and so everything was on floor lamps. Heck, my 70s house had all kinds of outlets in the floor so you could plug your lamps in around your sofa and love seat without having to cover extension chords with carpets. I've gone through every room in my house and added overhead lighting, and all the outlets are not switched any more. It's a pain in the ass to do. The cool thing is I was able to ensure that no outlets and overhead lights are on the same breaker. If the lamp goes out, you can plug one in if needed. And due to the efficiency of LED lamps, I have all my main level lighting on one breaker, all the second story lighting on another, and the basement on a third. I have also just completed a task I'm rather proud of. Every breaker # is written on the back side of the outlet cover so if I ever need to fix something I don't have to go searching for the breaker. I also have it all mapped out on a sheet next to the breaker box. I put in a new breaker box, it's very nearly full, even though it has 42 slots. I have subpanels in my outbuildings. Every box is pristine, not a wire out of place. I'm rather proud of the electric work I've done considering the rats nest it was when I got here.

Split outlets were a thing , usually they are turned opposite of the other outlets to indicate they are switched. You can do it either way btw, there are tabs on the side you break off if you only want to switch one outlet.
As noted, the plastic 'dildo' is only for stability. Keep in mind that if you move it up to the switched outlet, anyone can turn it off and interrupt power.

I think we should have an LED light appreciation day. They are quietly one of the biggest advances in technology in the last couple of decades. I was looking at a police car yesterday that had someone pulled over and the fucking thing was lit up like a Christmas tree with red and blue lights flashing all over it that were incredibly bright. I don't know if that's actually a good thing, but the fact that it's possible is pretty cool. I don't know what the societal gain is from taking the billions of light bulbs in the US from 60-100 watts down to like 10-15 but I'm sure it's huge. Yard lights and flashlights are an order of magnitude brighter than they used to be while using less energy. Headlights in cars are so much better. You can have lights in every imaginable form factor and not only do they last longer than the old bulbs, but they're still very affordable as well. On top of the practical benefits, the lights in my TV room can be any color and react to music playing or even what's going on on the TV screen and when you don't feel like doing that silly shit, they are still perfectly functional as just plain lights in the room. I wouldn't have picked light bulbs as something that would make a giant technological leap in my lifetime but they really have.

LED lights are terrific. I got a bunch of these strips that light up in various colors a while back, still figuring out how to apply them. Maybe one behind the TV that glows faint blue, a couple up high on the bedroom walls that turn the room reddish. I saw a fellow Tesla owner who had an LED under the lip of the dashboard that glowed blue and looked awesome. He told me how he had it connected, there's a way to plug them in via the glovebox. LEDs enhance pretty much anything.

If I needed another reason to not like Nintendo, the Switch 2 power plug is this big stupid box. All my other modern devices have normal plugs, but not them! Here it is taking up two spaces, just barely, just enough to fucking piss me off!

Luckily, I don't need any more spaces there, because I was able to use the surge protector's USB port for my sixth and last device.
