This is a crazy rumour - that Apple is going to buy Masimo Consumer which owns the AV brands Denon, Marants and Bowers & Wilkins. I hope it doesn't happen - I'd like my next AVR to not be ringfenced inside the Apple ecosystem.

My Dune Real Vision 4k Plus media player just decided to stop playing 4k UHD mkv rips for some reason. I go out to the Dune website and see that they just released new 8k players so my conspiracy theorist side says they spiked their firmware just to get us to upgrade boxes.

This probably would not affect me at all since ill never buy another Denon AVR. Not having the B&W being available might suck but there is plenty of other amazing speakers out there.

I bought a denon to replace a Panasonic, kept the pana laying around just cuz…. Few years go by, the denon died, and the Panasonic has been plugging away ever since. Lol

Now i know car audio is way different than non… but the bowers system in my Volvo xc90…whew, chefs kiss

Google just announced a new streaming device. Many were hoping it could be an Nvidia Shield Pro replacement which is now 5 years old but remains the only device that can stream 4k, dolby vision and trueHD atmos. Based on the specs there's no mention of DTS-X support which would mean it won't replace the Shield.

Looking for a receiver with HDMI 2.1 and eARC, 4 Ohm speaker support, 9+ channels for 5.1.4, and ideally DIRAC Live. I'm leaning towards the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX305 / Onkyo TX-NR7100 / Integra DRX 3.4, which from what I understand are all practically the same unit, with the Pioneer and Onkyo being nearly identical and the Integra having the same internals but a different front panel. First two are available from Amazon (third party, but shipped by Amazon so no potential return problems) but unfortunately the Integra would mean a direct purchase from Adorama. Price-wise, the Pioneer is $630 and the other two are $650.

Anyone have experience one of these or a recommendation for a close alternative?

So, I'm a HUGE Yamaha receiver fan. I have literally owned nothing but that brand since I was a teenager, so a good 40 years. The first one I ever bought is still working in a friend's garage despite all the dust and grime and motor oil and sawdust, and I have never had a single issue with any of them I've owned. I only upgraded due to new features.

Unfortunately, to match the 9.2 channels that those you listed have, a Yamaha is apparently going to cost over $1000. Is that a hard requirement? Because there's a really nice 7.2 for around $600. No DIRAC either, so if that is another sticking point I don't think any Yamaha's have that at this point, but I honestly don't know why it would be that big of a deal if they use YPAO instead. Still, if that's your thing then I get it.

Thanks, I like Yamaha's stuff too so I did check that one out but had to cross it off the list because it only allows 4 Ohm speakers on the front L/R channels and the rest are limited to 6 or 8. All my speakers are 4 Ohm. I do really want to try out DIRAC too, so I think I'm going to grab the Pioneer. Worst case I've got until the end of January to decide I don't like it and want to try something else.

You are going to have to spend some cash probably if you want to decently power a whole set up at 4 Ohm. You might consider getting an amplifier. If your hardcap is 1k you might consider the Ony RZ50. It's a really good AVR for the money.

No thread. I think there are a lot more home theaters out there than home arcades. I have a theater but no arcade. I built a MAME machine, a virtual pinball machine and a driving sim cockpit and they are all in my basement but I don't consider that to be an arcade. I have a buddy with 6 pinball machines, a digital dart board, a skeeball machine and about 10 different cabinets cocktail and standup all in his basement. That seems more like a real arcade to me.

I dont know there is a rule set it stone but when I was a kid every gas station, grocery store, etc. had at least a couple video games in the front, and maybe a pinball machine - they were not arcades. Every mall had an arcade and it would have dozens of games. To me a home arcade would have a lot of machines going.

Well, a home theater is a lot smaller than a real theater, so a home arcade would be too? (and then is it more arcadey to have 1 cabinet with 600 games or 20 cabinets with 20 games?) Also, pretty sure my childhood pizza hut had a big neon "Arcade" sign over the corner that had 2 cabinets in it, and who am I to argue with oldschool pizza hut?

edit: In either case, post up those home arcade builds somewhere!

Kind of an odd question maybe but is there any standalone digital media player that uses VLC as its operating system?
