GoT intercontinental ballistic cruise ballista was amazingly dumb, but they seem to have overcorrected a bit too far here - if there's one time no-one is going to bat an eye at a dragon eating a ballista to the face, it's when it sticks its head through a gate that barely fits it, and there a bunch of siege weapons already lined up and manned pointing at the gate !
