U.S. lidar maker Luminar partners with Airbus to test autonomous flight tech

April 26 (Reuters) - Luminar Technologies Inc(LAZR) said on Monday it would partner with Airbus SE to test technologies which could increase aircraft safety and ultimately enable an autonomous flight with obstacle detection.

The two companies will work on enhancing aircraft sensing and perception, Luminar(LAZR) said, adding that its technology could also substantially improve the safety of existing aircraft applications.

"Partnering with Luminar...will help us define and explore the next step towards more autonomous flight vehicles," said Sandra Schaeffer, chief of Airbus UpNext, the planemaker's future technologies division.

California-based Luminar(LAZR) makes lidar sensors, which use laser light to detect objects ahead of and around the vehicle, and are a key component of many self-driving systems being developed by automakers.

"We're able to directly re-apply what we've accomplished for the automotive industry into aviation," said Luminar(LAZR) Chief Executive Austin Russell.

In March, Luminar(LAZR) announced a deal with the self-driving software subsidiary of Volvo Cars to offer a combination hardware-software system to other automakers.

Luminar (LAZR) went public through a merger with Gores Metropoulos Inc, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), and began trading in December.

The ARK funds. Let me preface this by saying The ARKs made a lot of money the last 12 months or so. That being said, my personal take is that there is something...off... about them. If it was just me I would shrug it off, but people a lot smarter than me are looking also. For all I know Cathy is some savant genius. I also know she is bucking the system with her style and I sometimes wonder if she is functioning inside an echo-chamber and if there is anyone on her team who speaks out against some of the moves she makes. The latest issue I have is her funds buying her other funds as holdings. This is a real flag for me. I am not trying to be a nay-sayer, but I do advise doing some extra deep due diligence on the ARK funds.

I'm heading to the depot to buy some lumber. Thought this was more everyday, but prepare to see me in the loss porn thread I guess. At least my stonks are at record highs.

What are you building?

I had a shed overhang, to store dirt bikes and a side by side, built last summer. It cost $1000. I’m guessing now it would cost $2000.

Just expanding on a greenhouse. If I had to do the math on the wood I need, probably like 100$ or so in terms of what I spent before, so not a lot. A lot will be plastic siding and concrete.

I get this, but this tweet is meaningless. Hey guys this fund holds assets that if nobody wanted to own the prices would collapse. That is always true, it is true for ARK and every single ETF and equity out there. The person just believes it's worth tweeting because they disagree with the current value of those assets. But there is nothing novel here.

There is an underlying issue of ETF giving people the illusion of liquidity beyond the assets they hold, exact same issue exists in Junk bond ETFs. ETFs let large amounts of money flow in and out meanwhile the assets they hold are highly illiquid. That means any kind of dramatic liquidity pullback will see those assets plummet like in a vacuum. As far as exposure from cross fund behavior I think people should consider ARK's total exposure to each name not just the exposure in a particular fund.

ARK does remind me of Janus in the late 90s and it probably won't end well but that could also be 200% from now. I'm out ARK btw forget if I told you that

Im not saying this is tweet is some epiphany someone had. I "want" to own the ARK stuff because I think novel approaches can pay off big if they hit. The more dd I due however, the more I find stuff that gives me pause. The liquidity thing is what it is. There is inherent risk in investing in illiquid assets. A lesson I learned the hard way. Its easy to buy into illiquid assets just setting your limit order and waiting. Getting out when you really want to get out is another story though.

Why did you move out of ARKK?

I’m on vacation. What’d I miss?

Was announced in the middle of a pretty solid index run upwards, things took a turn down, pretty steep right about that time.
