Hoping to discover desperately needed resources they immediately launch an expedition. A submarine is crafted and a convict is welded inside. Saw this tonight. Markiplier has never been on my radar. Insane that the guy has 38 million Youtube subscribers and I have basically never heard of him.

Iron Lung is a small Art House type of feature. Budget shows it was made for about $3m and considering the tiny budget, it's a pretty good movie. The whole movie takes place inside a submarine and Mark is basically the only actor on screen for 98% of the time. It is atmospheric, it's claustrophobic, and it's pretty good sci-fi horror.

It will be a love it or hate it type of experience for a lot of people. Even though I have never played Iron Lung, I would say it did the video-movie genre of movies proud.

Yeah, it's kind of shocking how Balkanized the internet has become, such as this year when I asked myself who the hell is ishowspeed and why is he covering an NFL game on Youtube only to find out he has more subscribers than the population of most countries in Europe, or wondering why there's Mr Beast branded crap in stores only to find out he has more subscribers than the population of the US and Canada.

In my case I had never heard of Markiplier or Jacksepticeye outside of Ninja Sex Party cameos until my niece was watching reaction videos, saw they had tens of millions of subscribers, and realized "Ah, that's why the Hollywood model is fucked, and is rapidly breaking down to a handful of utterly formulaic tentpoles and low budget dice tosses."

That said, just because they have internet fans doesn't mean they'll follow them to other media, or that they can make anything of value themselves. I considered what I saw of Markiplier's Amazon show The Edge of Sleep to be the most amateurish production I've seen outside of stuff on Best of the Worst. (The glaring competency exception being the goth girl, who already is a series regular on a broadcast medical show, so good on her.) I can't help but notice that even your review couches it in terms of its budget, and it'll be interesting to see if this or any other Youtuber production has any legs beyond their first weeks.

Iron Lung's premise is interesting to me, but it isn't the sort of game I'd really want to play, so I'll keep an eye out on this.
