"More qualified" by whose metric? Yours? "Feels"?
My Dad went through this same transition in the late 80s and 90s with the construction business. He couldn't compete with Jose and Juan anymore on price anymore, because they were willing to work for peanuts. Did he still find side-work? Sure. Did people compliment what a great job he did? Sure. But the giant housing complexes, etc. still went to Gonzalez R US, because they could do the job 75% effectively at 40% of the cost.
I know we like to live in this mythical land on these forums where Whitey is infallible, never fucks up, and only does perfect work. But have you ever torn apart a house built in the 50s or 60s? It's a fucking nightmare of shoddy work, poor code standards, janky wiring, etc. Is this anecdotal? Of course it is. But so are yours.
I used to be a Transportation Data Analyst. I've spent plenty of time around white-collar whites. And by and large, they're lazy as shit, fuck off playing video games/call in "sick" more often, expect businesses to cater to them because of their "skills" and how "irreplaceable" they are, etc.
At best, you're pricing yourself out of the industry. At worst, you're letting it happen. I would say "learn to code", but...well...
