We're only a single episode in but holy shit. If your project is going to be a complete train wreck at least have it be an interesting train wreck and I sure as shit wasn't bored. I think it might be some kind of farce or dedicated troll job? Like, we're supposed to watch it ironically with friends and riff on it the whole time while having a few beers?

I can't believe there's eight more episodes. I think this might wear out ITs welcome by then but for now I'm hooked. Also -

love that they didn't take the easy road on a lot of this episode. I wouldn't even call that a set up episode. This could be really good.

Ain't gonna lie, I'd tune in weekly to Surf Dracula, especially if it had some bitching surf rock. Maybe he teams up with the Creature from the Black Lagoon. It's like a Magnum PI show, and the Creature is his version of AJ, and maybe Abraham Van Helsing is Higgins.

This was pretty bad. Was surprised by the ending a bit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't It go into hibernation every 30 something years or whatever? Wasn't the original story set in the late 50s. The timeline is all wonky. And is Major Hanlon supposed to be Mike's dad?

We did get Jewish lamp shades though! Plus the pickle factory is apparently a deadly place to work. This feels like it's written by millennials fucking around with AI or something. Look out Alien Earth, there's a new sheriff of shit in town!

They certainly started this series with a bang.

Unlike other shows, you certainly can't complain about them taking a long time to get to the point.

The lampshade made me cringe, they just can't help themselves and throw out bullshit atrocity propaganda. Otherwise it was a decent pilot episode.

I'm sure jewish parents used to spook their misbehaving kids with shit like that. My mom used to tell me she'd sell me to the gypsies. There's just not going to be any "oh by the way that didn't actually happened" followup.

As a general criticism which also applies to the recent films IT gets used as a proxy Freddy Krueger type character. In the book and original miniseries he manifests as something you're afraid of or the clown while occasionally influencing townspeople to either look the other way or sometimes do something monstrous themselves. We start the episode with Matty having snuck in to see The Music Man. He has to flee and tries to hitchhike out of town. He gets picked up by a normal looking family but oh no something isn't right. I don't Matty is actually afraid of the nuclear family or liver or baby gargoyles. Just fucking with you is way more on brand with Freddy. That entire introduction could have been a remake of Freddy's Dead the Final Nightmare (where you going, anywhere but Springwood) and you don't even have to change anything. When we get the wrap around later IT doesn't manifest as anything any of them are afraid of. None of our main characters know that Matty got eaten by a baby gargoyle. That's entirely for the audience.

It doesn't really matter. I'd just prefer that IT was on brand in his scarings.

I don't know man, it was pretty bad. I mean I don't even remember anybody mentioning that this was coming out, and if I had a hazard I guess it's because they know it's a pile of shit, so that just kind of slipped it in under the radar with not a lot of media hype.

Whatever, though. I'll probably watch the rest of the series just to see how bad it's going to get, much like I did with the stupid alien show. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised but I highly doubt it.

My mom used to tell my sister and I that if we wandered around in the grocery store parking lot, we'd get run over by a car. She would point at oil spots on the ground and in different parking spaces, and told us that was a kid that got run over for not listening to their parents.

Sometimes you would see a giant oil spot, and we would ask her if that was a really fat kid that got run over. She always said yes. It put the fear of God in us. I did the same thing with my nephew when he was a little kid, and my sister and I still laugh about it. I'll also threatened to send him to China to work on a fireworks factory if he was misbehaving. Not really sure where I came up with that one, but he would get pretty upset when I told him he was getting shipped off to Hong Kong.

I used the word decently loosely, I haven't been able to watch through many shows as of the past half decade or so. I got all the way through Alien Earth with my wife and didn't enjoy it very much. With this IT show, I just knew it was going to be full of Talmudic propaganda. Honestly, the last show that I really enjoyed was fuckin Chernobyl back in 2019.

I thought this was fine. Disappointed if there were actual deaths at the end because I liked those kids.

One thing I really dislike is the use of anachronistic swearing in period settings... it completely takes me out of it. Or maybe I was just sheltered as a child, but I don’t remember hearing the 'F' word used so commonly among my peers (I’m an ’80s kid).

Are we talking about fag? I've got a penny dreadful detective story from the 1930s that swings it around. It goes way back.

Yeah the word that originated hundred of years ago when murdering gay men wasn’t used in the 50s. Totally a modern word.

I love the record levels of retardation yall have lately. I feel like this board is just me and a bunch of legal retards who post while blowing bubbles out of their ass in the bathtub.

it just shows how retarded I am that I keep coming here:

I'm not lying to you. I don't think I have it lying around but I had a pulp detective novel from the 1930s I tried reading. A dude in a fancy suit and haircut comes in to the guy's office. He gets called a faggot. It was really surprising and I immediately went to check the copyright. Things are often a little older than you think.

im agreeing with you. Im literally saying fag comes from when good and just white Christian men would burn fags to death long ago

yet somehow someone in this thread there is someone who thinks saying it in the 50s is out of place:

pure faggot thought
