So you are saying faggot originated from calling them kindling? Seems like it originally was used to describe useless old women who gathered kindling for a living and was later applied to effeminate men.

Makes you wonder what Zeppelin intended with that picture? Inside joke? "Let's put a faggot on the album cover!"

Was fine. Frankly I am not even super interested in the actual It / Pennywise stuff, but it looks like they are combining a bunch of King stuff into a blender and I wanna see what comes out. Having Halloran from the Shining, some Shawshank stuff, what looks like The Mist etc could be just flat fun. I dont really care about the lore or whatever, it was all a cocaine binge, I just want to be entertained frankly lol.

As for the lampshade. I remember it was a thing back in the 80's before it was proven false or whatever. 15-20 years after the Holocaust there would be lots of old wives tales, or "I heard from a guy who heard..." etc. I think it was an actual prop and not just CGI so that was fun

My question is, would children be using it liberally? I don't know. Just saying, as a kid during the 80s, I was pretty much oblivious to that word.

I think some of that is going to come down to whether or not your dad was in the navy. My grandfather swore like he never left. In A Christmas Story it's a plot point that Ralphie's dad "uses obscenity the way a painter uses oils" with Ralphie eventually slipping up and cursing himself.

Regular kids probably didn't swear a lot but I'm sure the poor ones did as is custom.

Are we discussing whether or not kids the age of the ones in this show used cuss words in the early 60's? Yes they did. They just did not in front of adults. That was grounds for an ass whooping. Cuss words did not freely flow in society as they do now. Most of this revolves around all forms of entertainment using cuss words a lot more frequently. Cuss words were not prominent in TV or movies back then.

Yes our society has changed.

On that note, I am trying to think of a movie or TV show that had this kind of violence shown against children. Usually it is implied rather than actually shown. This is NOT a show for somebody under 12.

It's not common.

Other than Mustache kid going how can I be the next Finn Wolfhard with every line the child actors are really good, which will make or break this kind of show. Hopefully it keeps rolling.
Though most if not all of them died so there is that. The mutant baby was boring, and they are doing a weird thing where they tell you a jump scare is going to happen. While jump scares are always dumb if used more than once a movie the way they are doing it is far worse. Then throwing in the sting 3-4 times a scene makes the whole thing feel laughable.

My dad used fuck in nearly every sentence when I was growing up

And we turned out better men for it too.

Know what’s better? I was told back then that a fag was a pile of sticks. So I always wondered why I would get weird looks from teachers in elementary school when they would ask on a Monday what we did over the weekend and I said, “My dad and I did some yard work and cleaned out a bunch of fags from the back yard”

Hm the show description says this covers the origins of Pennywise? Isn't he an alien or extradimensional being that crashed to earth on a meteor or some shit thousands of years in the past??

Lovecraftian horror from beyond spacetime crashes to Earth in what would one day become Maine.

The film and its sequel mostly had that. From what I've read this is going to reexplain that with an additional subplot involving Native Americans and their encounters with IT.

I dunno, a history of IT eating injun children could be funny. Just not sure that's something I need to exist in my life.
