I put little to no stock in what critics have to say, but it's still satisfying to see Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter have the highest score of the year (92) on both aggregate sites. OoT and GTA6 will almost certainly jump ahead before the year is over, but it says a lot about what a shit year this has been when a polished-up version of a game that's over two decades old tops everything else up to this point.
It was even the game that finally got me to buy a Switch 2 before the price bump, just so I could go with the superior physical copy since GungHo weren't assholes and didn't go with a game-key card.
