Going on 20 years as a professional programmer I have never once wished I had a numpad.

I used those keybinds for the 12 side buttons on my MMO mouse. You call yourself a gamer, you disgust me.

Tried a Keychron 96%, could not get used to it. I have a full size big ass Corsair that was too damn big, now I am using a full size Redragon and loving it.
My daily driver is a full sized corsair mechanical with round keycaps on it.

I have a MMO mouse with the 12 key thumb panel and I do use that. I am not a heathen. Trust.

Embrace the one true keyboard...

That bad boy will give you fingers so strong lesbians will envy you, and is loud enough that when you get into enthusiastic shitposting people will think you're firing a machine gun at the monitor to make your point.

This was the keyboard I learned BASIC, COBOL, and C+ on in the 80s. And the reason that to this day I'm still a Mechanical Keyboard Master Race member.

And they're still making new ones (well kinda..)
yea i've been thinking about running back a modelm to daily drive, but imagine getting used to a kinesis for 20years

look at the fucked up arrow keys, after a year you get used to it, and since keyboard is now column aligned it's easier to just num row instead of the numpad (there is a keypad second layer, but eh)

i mean if i could get an ibm space saver (model m w/o the numpad) that'd be nice put the prices are stupid crazy, alternatively i could just hack off the numpad on a regular ibm model m i still have enough in storage to do that w/

oh actually forgot about unicomp, could just do that

You say "free" space... I hear "wasted".
I don't have tons of "static" things on the desk outside of the keyboard, mouse. I like that I can use the other side of the L desk to do whatever. I don't have a workshop in the garage setup at the moment so I make do. I also hate clutter in general and already had too much of that anyway.

That said the keyboard is interesting. It is quiet but it has some design decisions that I can only describe as archaic. It takes AA batteries and it will turn off after sitting idle for 10 minutes or something. I do like the CTRL placement a lot and remapped my other keyboard just because I liked it so much. The fn keys are great and I got used to them quickly. I dislike the high travel keys as I've used that chiclet for years and years so this will take some getting use to. The default delete/backspace behavior is annoying and I had to change that. It defaults to fn+delete = backspace but the delete key itself functions like a key in the terminal even for the normal desktop. Which I hated.

Yea, I'm the same about clutter. If I don't have an actual use for something it goes in the fucking garbage. Unlike my wife who thinks a part of her soul is destroyed every time something gets thrown away.

I am the latter and slowly becoming the former. As I get older I am starting not care about things I've had for decades and clearing stuff out. My boxes of 90s comics would be gone if I could be bothered to load them into the truck and take them somewhere so they could give me pennies on the dollar for them. Same w/ my 10" dobsonian when I finally feel like putting it on FB or something and dealing with randos lowballing me for it.

That being said, my desk is always trashed, lol.

As for 10 key... BBS games (Tradewars in particular) hooked me there, but in my obsessive need to get new shiny things I've been tempted to try and change my habits and just lean more on my MMO mouse to justify this thing which I totally don't need.

I got one of these after using a Xbox controller for years. Third party controllers are legitimately better than first party now. What a world. I also have a PS5 controller. Xbox controllers not playing nice with Linux or Mac isn't good for me anymore.

Consider me a major fan of the HHK keyboard now. With the function key setup I still have all of the QOL stuff I used on the daily with my other keyboards. But with way less keys. Volume up is no longer a dedicated button but FN+A and FN+S for down and FN+D for mute. I appreciate it's simplicity and lack of stuff everywhere.

I like the cpu/power/heat thing on the right. The dedicated buttons for steam, youtube, battlenet, epic, and the terminal are totally unnecessary. Especially on a mac, CMD+SPACE and you can pull up any app in like 2 seconds.

It does look cool though.

I have that controller in white and like it as well. Have to retrain myself to stop hitting the program buttons and reach a lil higher. Muscle memory doesn't always work but after a while you get used to it. Something about the PS5 layout with the 2 sticks side by side makes the mild carpel-tunnel in my left hand fire up majorly, that's actually how I found out it was there. Prefer the MS layout.
Sad to hear Xbox controllers don't play nice with Linux. Just bought a SSD to install Bazzite on my gaming machine.

You can get it working on Linux. The problem I was trying to solve is that I wanted to use the same controller on my various devices. Xbox controller tolerates one and only one pairing.

Hmm don't remember any software, you did finger-foo on the controller itself to change / remap. Been a min since I messed with it though.

8bitdo is plug and play on Mac and most linux distros. Don't be a Windows cuck anymore.
