Chip theory does make nice stuff. 230 is still pretty spendy. But tmb with more of a single shot adventure is tempting.
So far I’m liking it more than TMB. TMB is interesting in that you build the characters different ways when you play, but it feels kind of limited because you only have enough points and time to do a little bit with the character before you’re killing the boss. The battle mat always felt claustrophobic too.

This one you fully customize your character every time with a huge amount of combinations. You have your race specific stats and ability, then your class which there are a large amount of options, then you train specific skills within your various stances. I like the cooldown mechanic better because you get to use your skills a lot, where TMB you don’t use them as much. Then you have the maps which changed to hexagon and are larger and connect to each other so it feels much less claustrophobic. It’s also much longer before fighting the boss so you develop your characters quite a bit versus TMB. There’s also the overworld which TMB didn’t have. Yeah they had a little map but it was completely pointless. ES you’re actually making decisions and completely changing the way you play through your campaign. Going into towns to buy and train and stuff is pretty cool.

I think TMB still has a place at the table, it’s a nice one sitting yet still crunchy game. Elder scrolls just iterated and improved a lot of what TMB does. I’m pretty excited about it cause it just did a lot of things I wish TMB had in it. These are my early impressions anyways, I haven’t played it a ton yet.

I think you’ll find the overworld map aspect is pretty half baked and thin, but all the rest of what you said is on point. It’s a solid game.

New one from Chip theory, Too Many Bones 2

Pasted from discord:

Info from the stream for those that missed it.

Totally new game. Its a Boss Battler that doesn't invalidate TMB 1

Trying to get base game price at 150$ MSRP (Same as TMB 1)

Sessions take place over 2 days, you have a Enforcer boss fight on Day 1 and then a Tyrant Boss fight on Day 2. Time travel mechanic, every location has Past, Present and Future. Unique baddies for each location and time period.

Maps are huge. Movement is way more important, with a lot more tactical map decisions. Past, Present and Future each have there own item decks. If you get a item from the past then use it in the future (and drop it) it then permanently goes into the future loot deck. Items basically get "Displaced" into different time periods as you play more games.

Still single session but things you do effect future runs. Not a Legacy game though. You unlock new content, you also will lose some content into the "rift box" as new stuff comes out of it. The game is constantly changing over each session so no 2 people will have the same game states.

There are powerful Relics you can find and unlock that give you unique "Relic Dice" that can be used for powerful abilities once unlocked.

They said they are making systems to make game length consistent now (even across player count) so it will always be 2-3 hours. No variable game length based on Tyrants that TMB had

Base game will have 4 playable character. 2 Kobolds and 2 Gearlocs. Gearlocs and Kobolds have teamed up!

The Night Hunters: Gothic Horror for TOV and 5E D&D by Kobold Press arrived earlier today. Pretty nice quality overall by just looking it over quickly. I picked the version for their own Tales of the Valiant system.
