Bungie execs got fucking rich off that shit. It was all planned. They knew they were doomed. Remember the CEO showing off his fucking car collection on twitter while they were laying off actual devs and artists?

I mean think about it, why the fuck would they sell to Sony when just a few years before they were all about buying all the shares and trying to get from under Activision? It does not make any sense. So yeah my theory is that they knew they doomed the fucking future and wanted an out, and that out was sony.

Bungie would sell to Sony because Sony was willing to pay far too much because either Sony's executives thought they were behind the ball on live service games or Sony's board thought they were behind the ball on live service games, or Sony's excuse to their board for some quarter was that Sony was behind on live service games, none of which are exactly the same statement.

I think Bungie's involvement with both Activision and Sony shows that Bungie learned it's _extremely_ difficult to be an indie AAA publisher nowadays (see also Epic's current meltdown) , and their preferred business model of "Give us a bunch of money and leave us alone for a couple years" is very tough to swing in the current era.

It isn't very entertaining to watch is one issue there - I watched Shroud play in a bit when it was new and it lacked the watchability of a game like Arc Raiders or even Tarkov.
