tl;dr
destiny 2's end was already determined before being bought by sony
bungie was doing poorly and had to bought
marathon wasn't meant to compete with destiny2's numbers, but with games like escape from tarkov
marathon is doing as expected

not in the article, the ex community manager claimed they had access to info from leadership and legal

Bungie's fate was sealed after The Final Shape and their lack of a good plan going forward from there.

I tried to give it a shot during the free weekend, it might be good but I dont know.

I cannot stand shooter games with shield/plate mechanics. If you have more than 1 health bar in a fps, you fucked up.

400 people for a single game?

I bet you infinity money that at the very least a third of the employees are not hands on with game development. This is the exact same issue you see in higher education when the number of administrators is 3:1, 2:1, or even now 1:1 with number of students. A shit ton of make-work jobs or justify their existence by creating red tape that only they can solve and then meting that solution out over extended periods of time. Worthless.

Seriously, I bet at this point Bungie has maybe 200 devs with any skill, handful of infrastructure folks to keep the lights on, And Maybe 5 QA people. The rest of the company is bullshit, DEI hires, Women with made up jobs to make demographics look better, and a bunch of Blue hairs and trannies that get promoted above their skill.

I dont get how this happens over and over at every studio and in every game franchise and the same mistakes keep happening.

“After speaking with my sources, including some at PlayStation, what stands out is mainly internal resistance/strong pushback,” Trinel said. “Many people at PlayStation don’t understand the decision made at the top to discontinue D2.

“Some have told me that there’s a kind of desire for revenge, as Sony’s leadership reportedly blames Bungie for a number of issues with their GaaS strategy. The exact number of layoffs planned at Bungie is still being determined, but I’ve been told repeatedly that the target is indeed 50%.”

When asked whether he meant Sony was seeking revenge or Bungie was, Trinel replied, “Sony exec.”
