I've seen BoB many times but The Pacific only the one time when it first came out. Just started re-watching it, 3 episodes in so far and it is much better the second time around. I think when it came out in 2010 it was too close in my mind and I was directly comparing it to Band of Brothers and couldn't appreciate it on its own merits. Also didnt have a basement theater to watch it on back then either, show is great on a large screen and has some serious bass.

BoB usually got liked more because it had a cohesive narrative arc with essentially the same characters throughout all doing stuff together. You really couldn't replicate that directly with the Pacific campaign, primarily due to the high casualty rates and the vastly different divisions/outfits/fighting locations. Like you could follow the 1st for Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester, then they absolutely got decimated at Peleliu and later you had Okinawa. But you also had other divisions doing other battles on different islands. The show was able to follow a couple characters throughout the war, but you never had that same large cast of recurring characters like you did in BoB.

Pacific does do a better job of showing how messy and fucked up war is, though. And the Pacific campaign was 10x more brutal and unforgiving than the American European conflict.

Well they deviated from formula of the first three episodes but still overall fairly dull.

is nobody watching this?

The latest episode was decent, although there was no sign of the escape from Nazi France storyline. Hopefully we see some of the guy who landed in Germany. And what's up with the 3 black dudes in the title sequence?

The 100th was just something that was never really going to be an enjoyable watch. There's no real character building or anything that can happen because they got fucking decimated.

what should they have called it? Top Gun?

Anyway, most recent episode was probably the most FOH big brain baiting but fairly easy to look it as a tacked on episode solely to introduce diversity. It's been a decent enough watch, never great but acceptable enough.

Band of Brothers = epic 12 hr movie

The Pacific = good mini series

Masters of Air = halmark channel snoozefest.

What retard chose the army bombers of Europe over the naval combat pilots of the Pacific? Hanks & Spielberg didn't want to spend the money to make a decent show?

Directors and producers always want to spend money...so long as someone else is footing the bill lol
