After the Netflix horror I can't blame anyone for not wanting to give this a chance. In a sane universe this should have been a low to no budget production in the tradition of the original movie.

Apparently this version started life at Netflix before _they_ got cold feet over the budget (cue unrelated look at The Electric State budget) and it ended up at MGM.

But yeah, a 40 year old property whose only revivals the vast majority of fans seem to revile (the Netflix cartoons) seems like a terrible bet to put $170M on.

I've seen enough Masters of the Universe toys in Walmart's clearance section to know this was probably not going to work out. Some of them were weird shit like

along with 1 for 1 nostalgia bait reissues and they all ended up in the bargain bin eventually.

The CN reboot was good. But it got killed off along with Johnny Quest reboot. I think those were 20ish years ago?

I probably said this, but outside Edris Elba being cast, I think this looks like a mostly true to the 80’s show adaptation. I think this might pleasantly surprise. Low expectations.

Elba had a fucking red mustache in the trailer?! What.

Can't get a Stargate movie reboot but can get a 200m budget Masters of the Universe. Who the fuck is making decisions over there?

They could have done a pre and total run of the He-Man Eternity War comic series with fighting, heroism, betrayal, Hiss, Hordac, an awesome Skeletor with Teela wearing her hot Snake Sorcerous outfit and taken wheelbarrows of money to the bank....but no. We get Adam with pronouns

So like… will kids enjoy it? Or are the only reviews we see gonna come from 45 year olds who are pretending that they are the target demo?

You’re supposed to bring your 7 year old to this and bond over something he finds awesome and you find tolerable. No way did they actually try to make a fucking He-Man movie a grown ass adult would enjoy.

After seeing all the exact one for one re-releases of toy lines for 80s cartoons on shelves I think manchild marketing is a thing.

The point is there is a market to oldsters like me. Nothing I would like to see now is anything different than the 16 year old version of me would want to see. Why not hit both markets?

Same applies to Star Wars. Yes the old neck beards want to see a version, but that same version would appeal to the younger kids (hence why Empire is still considered one of the best Star Wars movies, even by Gen (insert here-wtf are we even on now)

Just saying. There has to be a middle market ground with some good writing somewhere left in Hollywood

The sweet spot they all hope for is the guys in their 40s who have their own kids now bring them to watch this and it creates a new younger fanbase
