  • Educational Programming Requirements: Broadcasters must provide programming specifically designed to meet the educational and informational needs of children 16 years of age and under. In later rulings enforcing the Act, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established a benchmark of at least three hours per week of "core" children's programming. [1]
  • Advertising Limits: To protect children from excessive commercialism, the Act restricts advertising to 12 minutes per hour on weekdays and 10.5 minutes per hour on weekends for programming aimed at children 12 and under. [1]
  • Host-Selling Bans: The FCC prohibits the practice of "host selling," where a character from a children's show is used to advertise products during that same program. [1, 2]
They just made it far less profitable and more difficult to produce. Also why sat morning died

It's my understanding the hour requirements for edutainment were the biggest killer - stations didn't any hours left for 'for-profit' kids shows.

Especially when most consumers had basic cable with a ton of kid networks (Disney, Nickelodeon, etc.) by that point.

A movie for little kids, who don't give a fuck about He-man.

50 year olds-- who also don't give a fuck about He-man.

Oh well, we'll get em next time.
What a weird post for someone who made 50 prior posts saying that Jared Leto was the only reason this movie wasn't a $5 billion blockbuster...

So I went ahead and watched this fucking disaster.

Who the fuck was the target audience??
Kids? With all the cursing and obvious sex jokes?
Adults? Basically only the Woke crowd. It starts off like it's poking fun at Woke, but then you get shit like Man-At-Arms telling Teela that she's the MAN he always wanted to be. The roll-your-eyes "Toxic Masculinity" of Skeletor. Adam being a sniveling runt unless he had brute force doing the heavy lifting, literally. They weren't poking fun at Woke, they were rubbing it our face by pretending they were.
Cringer being a Battle Cat without the Battle Cat.

Oh, and the Highlander theme song, even though the title fits, was blasphemy.
Yea, fuck'em. They're out to destroy everything.

Pokemon and video games is what killed the he-man, gi-joe, transformers, etc market.
The market just dwindled. there were always others. battletech, power rangers, etc.

But kids stopped buying action figures, and started buying pokemon, yu-gi-oh, etc.

Disney also happened. Disney was in bad shape, and turned themselves around overnight. focusing on quality.
gummibears, ducktales, tailspin.
(yes, it was gummibears that did it. based on.. but not based on the candy. ) (6 seasons, 65 episodes)

"Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears was Disney's first major serialized animated television series (it was released back to back with another show, The Wuzzles, which lasted only 13 episodes), and is often credited as having helped jump start the television animation boom of the late 1980s and 1990s.[3][26] Consequently, it also became the forerunner to Disney's famous Disney Afternoon timeslot, which gave way to other famous serialized Disney television series, such as DuckTales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and Gargoyles. Although many of these subsequently-created shows exceeded Gummi Bears in budget and length, the show is often credited as a sort of prototype for all of the animation which followed it."

x-men. the quality on the shows increased, leaving the action figures shows behind. and, the market was on comics, video games, etc. not action figures.

And to point out the obvious... Pokemon is a sales pitch for pokemon... captain n, mario brothers cartoon, zelda cartoon, etc- nintendo.

Was I the only one who thought the fight scenes were terrible? I mean the combat should have been the centerpiece of the movie but it was awful. No blood, no gore, weapons had no weight. It was like a 90 minute nerf battle.

Well, I was debating watching this when I was bored one night but after reading some of these reviews I think i'll save the 2.5 hours for something else instead...

I really don't see the massive hate? costume design was spot on, Master of arms was odd and Elba is always DEI.

Will watch again, as a guilty pleasure as D&D Honor among Thieves

Honor among thieves was great, though. The writers clearly understood D&D and table top, but it wasn’t ultra blatant and worked effectively on two levels: people who understood the reference and people who didn’t

Oh, and the Highlander theme song, even though the title fits, was blasphemy.

Technically, they did NOT play the highlander theme. They cut that actual verse out and only used the weird parts. I know because I was waiting for the theme song part.

weapons had no weight
Well, the sword of power came off what looked like a resin statue in a card shop. I spent most of the movie expecting them to figure out that wasn't the real sword (The power was within you the whole time!)

All that said, it was a good movie. I will watch the she ra movie if they make it. I think the key is going in with low expectations. If you watched the original series your expectations should be very low.

No. TECHNICALLY, it was exactly the same song and you knew the moment it started.

Highlander theme is a portion of the song called Princes of the Universe. Google AI is telling me the theme is the entire song. Maybe they used the entire song for the original movie. I only watched that once or twice but I've seen the series thousands of times so I know google is lying when it says they used the entire unaltered song for the series too. The opening credits were only 1 minute long and included a monologue, there's no way they fit the entire song in there.

Here we are
born to be kings
we're the princes of the universe

I am immortal
I have inside of me blood of kings
I have no rival
No man can be my equal
Take me to the future of your world

I'm saying that part was cut out of the he man movie because I was looking for it.

I just checked the movie opening credits and they had more of the song but still used less than half of it. So I'm sticking with they technically didn't use the highlander theme.

Queen wrote an entire album for highlander 1. Technically the whole album is the highlander soundtrack. Some of the movie songs were never even released outside of the film.

Yeah, what Brah said.

Queen was asked just for a song, for intro or something. normal ask... dude got the script and was like "I GOT THIS... ALL OF IT" and banged out Princes of the Universe, Who wants to Live forever etc.

So really ANY part of those IS Highlander as that is what it is for.

Best music video... disinterested Christopher Lambert lumbering on stage with Queen to sword fight a mic stand.

Irrelevant. We're talking about the highlander theme, not the soundtrack or some musical highlander fanfic. The theme song is what's played over the opening title sequence. "Princes of the Universe" is where the theme came from, but the theme was nowhere near the entire song. The theme is a subset of "Princes..." They also played "Who wants to live forever" a lot but you wouldn't call that the highlander theme.

The He Man movie played "Princes of the Universe" but left out the actual verses that were the highlander theme for some reason. At least, I think they did. I did only watch it once, but since I was on alert waiting for those lines I'm fairly confident they were left out.

To say "They used the Highlander theme for Heman" is accurate... is that what we somehow are arguing?

From Masters of the universe soundtrack

That "Highlander Theme" is:

And that is more of "The Highlands Theme" moreso than /The Highlander/ *movies, shows theme

But...

rock out some awesome music! Princes of the universe is super awesome -

Just watched it on Prime. It's frustrating because I think this could have been a really good movie. The dialogue ruined it, though. The visuals were great...costumes, special effects...it looked and felt good. But every time I was starting to get into it, they'd make some stupid comment that I refuse to call a joke because it was never close to being funny.
If they had just made it a serious movie instead of trying to be goofy/campy, it could have worked.
