Is it really worth a switch 2 even with this though? Time will tell
Donkey kong was fun. The zelda upgrades were good if you want to give those another shot, and everything else is a bit faster etc.

If you are a big nintendo person, worth it, if just a few games maybe not. Apparently the costco $200 for $160 bucks you can buy a switch on the Nintendo shop and save 20%. I would get 2 or 3 of them packs so you can get the $400 switch for 320 and the 3rd one can buy donkey kong, metroid etc. If saving money pushes over the edge.

Not yet. Maybe in another year.

My guess is that it came from the other end of the problem. They probably did some focus group polling to find out why Metroid as a franchise is not more popular and the answer was the oppressive atmosphere of loneliness and isolation. So they decided to add a chatty companion, not understanding that a key feature of the franchise is that very atmosphere that some people do not enjoy.

Plot twist: the chatty companion gets destroyed within the first hour of gameplay to enhance the feeling of loneliness. One can hope!

Guessing Miles won't be around for that long no, but the menu screen has six entries for companions and there are six main areas (besides whatever the final area is going to be) so chances are every area will have a companion to rescue and babysit.

Eh, we'll all find out next weekend.

its a few things.

One, nintendo has no idea why Metroid was liked. We've seen this time and time again with worse and worse new metroids with horrible ideas.
Two, Metroid sales have never been great. so, as much as we do want them to go back to the good stuff.. Finding success will likely require breaking the mold somewhere.. but where exactly?
Three, modern slop.

Mauler just released his 18hour video on Starwars Outlaws. its too long and I don't really recommend. its one of his weakest videos.
That said there is some good points in there... very spaced out..

At one point they discuss. Why does NIX exist in starwars Outlaws? So Kay vess can talk to herself. she can give exposition, she can bounce ideas off. she can repeat player goals over and over. Every fucking AAA game. an atreus, a harley quinn, a cortana, an elizabeth, etc, etc. Either they or the pc will not shut up. as the digetically tell you what to do and where to go, and how to solve every puzzle.
some are better then others of course. Nintendo even pioneered it really with the fairies. Games like Metalgear, and halo of course keep it to a minimum with a "comms" based interuption. even previous metroids did this like Fusion. note, people hated that for Metroid too.

I don't even think its focus groups. its just the industry standard at this point. People are Rare probably didn't even consider otherwise. They didn't NEED corpos or focus groups to tell them to add companions to on board new players with constant instructions.

Prime 1/2 also did the minimum comms, but you basically had to wait like 20-25mins before the suit would give you a pointer in the right direction.

Prime 3/Fusion was really really bad.

Other M, what a fucking joke.

Prime 4 Hollywood fucking slop.
