I like that the E4 Mafia is timeless. If you read Catch-22 there's a character named Ex-PFC Wintergreen who spent most his time in the brig or other punitive duties. So he gets busted down to buck private. When not in the brig he worked as some coffee boy/administrative aide to General Eisenhower's command, such that it was actually Ex-PFC Wintergreen dictating the war in Europe because as he was being given orders to communicate down the ranks he simply read them and discarded the ones he didn't like.
