I don't want "socialism."
I want a government that provides adequate healthcare and education so that people have what they need to compete in an otherwise capitalist economy. Food and housing would be nice too.
I want a capitalist system where the basics you need to compete are all covered, so when people fail, they can't legitimately claim they never got what they needed to compete.
The fact that this got branded as socialism is just a branding problem.

We tried to provide an education for all, but the liberals flat out ruined it. Today, your average college graduate has less of an education than an 8th grader did in the early 1900's. It is the 21st century, and we have unprecedented access to education and knowledge unheard of in the history of mankind, yet the average college graduate cannot pass an end of year exam given to an 8th grader 120 years ago.
Let me put it this way: take the average 8th grader from 1902, and they'd easily sail through college today because it would be easier than their end of year exams. Ya'll wonder why you can't get good jobs? It's because your diploma isn't worth the paper it is printed on. I've long been an advocate of having college diplomas printed on toilet paper, because then they would be of some use.
You want free housing? And you said you grew up in tenement housing? Have you zero pattern recognition? You can't give anyone free anything, because they will shit all over it. I hear someone asking for free housing, and I automatically know that person is lazy and ignorant.
Free food? Fuck that. We have food stamps or whatever the fuck it is called now. I made the mistake of going to WinCo on food stamp day and I thought there was a convention of Overeater's Anonymous that decided to go shopping becuase the place was filled from tile to rafter with waddling fatasses. That was when I knew that food benefits need to be tied to BMI. Cap it at 23. If you are fat, you don't need to be on the dole to get fed. Food benefits also need to be capped at 1 child and 1 adult.
You start out saying you don't want socialism, then you go about saying you want the core items that socialism provides! Free food, free housing, free education! Were you dropped on your head as a child? Repeatedly? You give people free food and housing and they'll sit at home playing Nintendo all day.
