You're right, I was thinking the Rangers. My bad.

And yeah after reading up on what he's doing it looks like someone may finally be able to turn that club around assuming their games translate well.

Hey look, I can do that too.

Also multiple Detroit Farm system sites have him ranked at 6th.

At any rate it's close enough to not really matter. The Astros farm system has always been deep and has always done nothing for them.
No idea what Astros farm team, A level to AAAA level, you have been watching... But their farm system has been in shambles since Tim Pupura was GM. Monumental failures of several 1st round draft picks (Eli Iorg, Brian Bogesivic, Max Sapp), not having any 1st round picks due to compensation for signing the likes of Carlos Lee or mother fucking Preston Wilson, but then not signing 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round picks in those compensation years.

Ed Wade did an ok job in getting the system restocked a little (drafting Jason Castro, George Springer, Delino DeShields Jr, Jose Altuve), selling Hunter Pence for Jarred Cosart and Johnathan Singleton, but there were some dumb things he did to (drafting Jiovanni Mier, not selling Michael Bourn for enough prospects to the Braves, major league signings of Kaz Matsui & Mike Hampton).

Before Luhnow took over the farm system was rated around 28th or worse by several different sources (baseball america, fangraphs, prospectus, etc), but is now in the top 10 of all of baseball. Yeah no... deep is not a word that I would use to describe what shape the Astros was in.

Yeah I saw it after I posted.

On another note Bud Norris is scratched from his start today. Likely being traded. Wonder who it is to and what the price was.

I came here to bitch that the Rangers get to play the Mariners & Astros a lot in the AL West. However, they have to play the As and Angels.. so i guess that balances that division out i guess.

God the astros are bad..

I could easily see the Astros being the powerhouse of the division in 2015. The Astros have put together a really smart organization, and the Angels and Mariners are run by retards. Texas is getting dumber as well.

I think the Orioles are interested. Hell, anyone with an arm not named Jason Hammel would be good.

houston's developing quite well but there's no fucking way they're becoming contenders by 2015. they have maybe two good players on their major league roster at the moment.

and why do you think texas is getting dumber?

One thing that lead to the Astros demise, was the continual trading away prospects to try and win now. The most recent trades that comes to mind that fit what I am talking about are as follows. Sending Ben Zobrist for Aubrey Huff, sending Willy Taveras, Taylor Bucholtz, and Jason Hirsch for Jason Jennings, or Fatty Albers, Mike Costanzo, Troy Patton, Dennis Sarfate and Luke Scott for Miguel Tejada.

This seems like the same path that the Rangers are taking. Not one shit will be given for Rangers fans when their team become occupants of the cellar.

I'd take Dylan Bundy please, thanks. Bud will likely command about an A or B grade prospect and a couple C grade prospects. I'll take it though.

aside from zobrist, the players you listed either suck or no longer playing. texas isn't following the same path because they aren't trading away their farm. i'll be concerned when they trade odor and profar for alex rios.

weird, super is right. I'd even be okay with trading profar laterally. No rentals please, because andrus and profar are pretty damn similar and we don't need two.

^ Reason right there why I dislike all things Dallas and can't wait for the impending failures for all of their major sports teams.

Not all players are destined to be All-Stars. Every teams needs its fair share of good role-players, as Lebron. If you look at those trades there it at least one player of those deals that is serviceable at the MLB level, and could replace current Astros in the same position.

Fatty Albers - RP Red Sox RHP
Luke Scott - DH Rays
Ben Zobrist - 2b/RF Rays -All-Star-

Jose Altuve, Jarred Cosart and Jason Castro are very encouraging players. Any other current Astros that are on the roster are just fillers for prospects to replace them with when they are ready. Two years from now the roster should have the likes of Springer, Singleton, Appel, McCullers, and Foltynewicz at the minimum. With any luck Correa could be MLB ready as well. The future is bright.

edit - Confused Affeldt and Bucholtz for some reason.

He's right though. you can't compare the current Rangers regime to the previous Astros one - Jon Daniels has yet to prove in his time as GM that he will trade away the future for the present. The Rangers are 2-3 bats away (if Cruz gets suspended) from being in contention, unless everyone currently in a slump turns it around. Daniels knows this.

Their SP and bullpen are set, they just need their current lineup to produce like it has in the past - trading for Rios or Pence or some other expiring hitter won't do shit in the long run. The current lineup must start producing for them to contend whether they make a trade to bolster it or not.

If Daniels is going to trade for a hitter, it will have to be a guy he can control for at least a few years. I wouldn't mind if they traded Profar or Andrus + something for someone like Stanton, but nothing else out there is worth more prospects. They must be pretty sure they can re-sign Garza as it is. He would rather save his farm for when the Rays make Price available this offseason.

Jose Iglesias to the Tigers in a three team deal thats still being ironed out with the White and Red Sox. Pretty much confirms Peralta's suspension.

Wow didn't see Iglesias going... Guy is a magician with the glove. Last I heard Peavy was all but headed to Arizona. Guess the Sox raised. the stakes.
